2020 a video review

So, here we are in the first few days of 2021 and I am sure we are all glad to be waving goodbye to 2020.

It has not been an easy year for anyone and my heart goes out to all of those who have been adversely effected by this pandemic, especially to those that have lost family members, friends and loved ones.

I have been lucky. I have not lost anyone close to me and the things I have lost can be remade, rebooked or rearranged. They are indeed just things!

A few of my weddings did go ahead and I am so pleased they did. In the early days of 2020 the ones I had the pleasure to photograph happened just as planned, although Charlotte and David's wedding which was only two days before the first national lockdown, did cut it fine.

Then the others that followed were all small, intimate Covid friendly weddings.

And I have to say, those weddings were some of my favourites, ever. They were an absolute joy! I don't think I have ever had so much time and freedom to capture those special wedding day photographs. Time is normally a luxury at a wedding, when the hustle and bustle of the day mean that the Bride and Groom don't get a minute to themselves, but with the advent of limited numbers and no disco's to be ready for, I really had the opportunity to make sure that every couple was blown away with the selection of amazing wedding day photographs that I captured for them.

I have put together a small video featuring some pictures from the weddings this year, I hope you enjoy them and see just how special all the weddings in 2020 were no matter how big or small they were!

2020 01

And now we soldier on into 2021 feeling optimistic for the year ahead, although I am sure it will still be sometime before we can consider this sorry episode is well and truly behind us.

To my Bride and Grooms who have postponed, your day will come and when it arrives we will laugh louder, cry harder and party like there is no tomorrow!

And I for one cannot wait.

If you need a photographer  for your day, please get in touch. I would love meet you for coffee to hear more about your day, I can show you some more of my work and we can see if we get on. Give me a ring on 01904 533476 or drop me a line on jo@joannebphotography.co.uk

Aldwark Manor Hotel Weddings//Amy and Chris https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2020/10/aldwark-manor-hotel-weddings-amy-and-chris

So, here we are in October, with the year nearly up (thankfully) and weddings have been very far and few between. However, I have been lucky to capture quite a few intimate weddings lately.

And I have to say they have been wonderful!

I can appreciate that as you are planning your big day, reducing your guests from the original 100 you wanted can seem a bit of a stretch or amending your bridal party from ten down to one may not be for everyone, but if you do want to go ahead and get married this side of Christmas or possibly early next year, then I can highly recommend scaling back and having an intimate wedding!

Plus, just think of the money you could save and then spend on the honeymoon when you can eventually take it.

As I think back upon Amy and Chris's day and the others that I have had the fortune to capture under the current restrictions, I honestly reflect with joy. The days have been so special, intimate and I'd even go so far as to say refined. In these times of uncertainty I know that these weddings have been a silver lining for everyone attending and for me they were a total dream.

I asked Amy about her day and if she would be happy for me to write a short piece about it and this is what she had to say about her "Covid wedding",

"I think it would definitely help others for me to share my thoughts on my day. I think wedding numbers will be restricted for a long while yet so it would help other couples to see that they can still have a great day without it having to be a huge event. I think for us it worked out for the best. I absolutely loved it. We had time to talk to everyone and it was so chilled and informal. Loved it. All our family and friends were great too when we had to cut numbers twice. Everyone just wanted the best for us and for us to have an amazing day - which we did!"

And I have to agree with her sentiment!

Now, we don't exactly know how long the restrictions on weddings could go on for, but if you do want to get on with your life and plan for your next chapter, then read on.

Aldwark Manor looked stunning on the day. The Barnes Wallis Suite was just the right size to make sure everyone had a great view. Purple Ivory and Petals by Louise made sure it was perfect!

Upstairs Amy got ready with her sisters, whilst downstairs Chris was looking every part the Groom in his wedding suit.

The ceremony was so personal even with the Covid measures you can just tell that everyone was smiling. The Registrars did a wonderful job in making a very strange situation seem fun and perfectly normal!

The one thing I have discovered about these lovely tiny weddings is that there is plenty of time!

Plenty of time for the Groom to meet everyone in the bar, plenty of time for the Bride to get ready, plenty of time for socialising after the ceremony and the best bit, if you ask me, plenty of time to capture some fabulous photographs of the two of you.

aldwark-manor-weddings-york-wedding-photographer-21aldwark-manor-weddings-york-wedding-photographer-21

Amy and Chris were up for doing as many photographs as possible in and around the hotel and as we had lots of time we certainly made use of all the fabulous backdrops that Aldwark Manor Estate has to offer.

Firstly, we captured a few inside the newly refurbished Walsingham Suite, before heading outside into the grounds.

aldwark-manor-weddings-york-wedding-photographer-23aldwark-manor-weddings-york-wedding-photographer-23

As we dodged the showers and the sun made an occasional appearance we made very good use of the new secret walled garden.

Then we went for a short walk to the little bridge on the golf course, where I think you will agree that the Autumn colours were beautiful!

Before we headed back inside to capture a few more on Aldwark's traditional staircase.

Oh the utter joy and luxury of been able to spend so much time with a Bride and Groom. Spending real time making sure I get the best images I possibly can of the newlyweds. Capturing those special memories that I know they will treasure forever!

Once we were back in the hotel, Amy and Chris headed off to the Elements restaurant with their guests to enjoy a delightful afternoon tea followed by an individual cup cake from Flamingo Bakery.

At this point I said goodbye, the rest of the day was to be their own, relaxing and chatting with their closest friends and family members.

Amy's final words about her day were,

"All of our suppliers (yourself included) have been so lovely to work with especially with the current circumstances as we had to scale right back. They were all really accommodating. That really helped and we do really appreciate it.

Even though our day wasn't what we originally planned I think it turned out even more special"

Thank you Amy and Chris for allowing me to spend your very special day with you and for letting me share a few pictures and my thoughts. I did truly love your day! Congratulations you guys X

Thank you, as ever to the team at Aldwark Manor Hotel and Spa for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Leah or Kim about having your wedding at Aldwark Manor, give them a call her on 01347 838146

Principal Hotel Weddings//Mags and Jamie https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2020/5/principal-hotel-weddings-mags-and-jamie Sometimes weddings come along that you know are going to be unique and allow you  to create some fabulous wedding day photographs for the bride and groom. As soon as I met Magdalene and Jamie I just knew that their wedding was going to be something special!

Their wedding took place on a lovely sunny day in September last year at the fabulous York wedding venue, The Principal Hotel. As a recommended wedding photographer at The Principal Hotel, I always know where to get the best photographs on the wedding day.

Magdalene is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and met Jamie during their time at York University back in 2012. When Jamie proposed over cream tea at the Principal in 2017 they just knew that was where the wanted to tie the knot.

First I headed off to capture some photographs of the amazing wedding bouquet with it's vibrant colours and styling from Dutch Nurseries. It looked stunning amongst the backdrop of the historic staircase as did Magdalene's dress when displayed in the same area.

The bridal party used one of the rooms at the hotel to get ready in. And apparently they were there very early in the morning to get themselves sorted. Daniella from Boss Blend Beauty did an amazing job, making sure that all the ladies looked stunning! And Sarah from Elegance & Flair made sure that everyones hair was set in place, including Jamie's.

There is always something special when a father sees his daughter for the first time in her wedding dress. It is special moments like this that you will treasure forever from your wedding day. Knowing the hotel like I do, I knew exactly where to stand to capture this amazing series of emotional wedding day photos.

The Oak Room looked stunning with the blossom trees from Fulford Flowers beautifully framing the aisle. There were also lots of decorations and personal touches around the room which Mag and Jamie had put in place. They represented their likes and interests like Studio Ghibli animation films, succulents and decorative symbols from Chinese culture representing double happiness. It really was a wonderful setting that expressed both of their personalities and culture.

After the ceremony we took advantage of the stunning architecture inside The Principal Hotel before heading out into the gorgeously manicured gardens and fountain area for those stunning wedding day portraits. Magdalene had also expressed an interest in going to York Minster to capture some photographs in front of that too.

I think you will agree that taking a quick trip to York Minster on the wedding day for a few more photographs was well worth it.

As the evening function was about to start Mag and Jamie saw the wedding cake for the very first time and they were blown away! The cake was a work of art and made even better by the fact that it was handmade by Magdalene's sister Elena. It's decoration also focused on succulents with a string of hearts (a type of succulent) trailing down the cake and a Studio Ghibli - Totoro character on the top. The cake itself was mille crepe, so each of the three layers were made up of wafer-thin crepes. Apparently there was a 'cake team' working well into the night before making and assembling the cake!

Before the traditional first dance, Mags and Jamie had some other things planned. After getting announced into the room by Pat their DJ and evening host, Mag wanted to throw her bouquet to the ladies in the room and then it was Jamies turn to remove the garter before tossing that to the gents.

I had the best time with Magdalene and Jamie at their wedding and it was a real honour to capture their first wedding. Thank you so much for having me, for allowing me to share your day and for letting me write a lovely follow up on your day!

Now, as I mentioned at the beginning of this blog, Mags was from Kuala Lumpur and in October they went over to her home for a second wedding. They had a ceremony at their family home and then went onto a reception near by. The photographs below are from that wedding!

Hazlewood Wedding Photography//Charlotte and David https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2020/4/hazlewood-wedding-photography-charlotte-and-david Way back in March, when life was still just about normal, I got to photograph my last wedding before we all took to our houses. I vividly remember a few days before Charlotte and David's special day having my fingers tightly crossed for them that their day would go ahead and not get cancelled at the last minute. Luckily, their day went ahead as planned, first the ceremony at their church St Edwards, Clifford and then onto Hazlewood Castle, where everything went perfectly, well apart from when I had to use my fire fighting skills to prevent a total disaster!

I first met Charlotte and David at a Wedding Fair, where we instantly hit it off. Finding the correct Photographer was probably more important for these two than most. As soon as they stopped to chat, I realised that Charlotte was deaf but trust me you would never know. She lipreads like a boss! For her though, getting a Photographer who understood this and that she was comfortable with was really important.

Order of service photographed with wedding bouquet at Hazlewood Castle

On the day itself, Charlotte was getting ready with all the girls at her Mum and Dad's house before heading to the church. I think it's always so special when the Bride leaves from her family home.

Meanwhile at the church David was speaking with family and welcoming their guests.

I have to say, not only was the church one of the nicest, brightest churches I have had the pleasure to work in for a while, but also Father Newman and his congregation were the most welcoming! Also at the church was the lovely Karen Gillespie from Yorkshire BSL whose job was to sign the ceremony for Charlotte and a few of her close friends.

After the fabulous service, it was off to Hazlewood Castle for the rest of the wedding day celebrations.

Now, I alluded to an incident earlier where my fire fighting skills and military training, had been called upon and how a disaster was narrowly averted. During some of the photographs, one of the exit doors was used for ease of access to the gardens, which allowed a small breeze to flow into the main wedding breakfast room. This draught then set off an unlikely chain of events causing one of the table centrepieces to slide into a tea light and catch fire. As soon as the alarm sounded the hotel staff promptly went to see where the alarm was being triggered. At the same time I happened to walk into the room, only to find the centre of a table on fire. Dashing towards the fire I was trying to think where I could find a fire extinguisher, then my next thought was to get water from the bar, but then I remembered that I had seen a vase with flowers in placed at the end of the top table. Grabbing the vase and (gently) discarding the flowers, I threw the water over the fire. Luckily the whole incident was dealt with swiftly, the hotel staff made sure the table was reset and looked just as it did before. It was as if it never even happened and I am pleased to say that the rest of the day carried on without a hitch!

It was such a great day, there was lots of great food, drink and laughter. The other great story from the day was to do with David Marken, an Event and Wedding singer who entertained the guests during the drinks reception and then again later in the evening. The bride and groom first met David when they were holiday. They were on a cruise where David was one of the entertainers and they became friends. So, when David proposed to Charlotte on the cruise, it was only right that he should be at the wedding and sing their first dance.

During the evening function we even managed to get outside for some gorgeous twilight photographs, which is when Hazlewood Castle really does stand out as as a stunning wedding venue!

It was such an honour and a pleasure to capture David and Charlotte's day!

Charlotte and David's day was so special in many ways and with the ever present threat of it getting cancelled made it even more of a celebration!

And, if you want to know what they thought of me, here is what they said the very next day by email.......

" We just wanted to send a quick thank you for yesterday. We had a fantastic day and really appreciated you being there to capture it for us. Everyone who we’ve spoken to had lovely things to say about you. You are a credit to your profession"  David and Charlotte

Thank you, as ever to the amazing team at Hazlewood Castle Hotel for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Malissa about having your wedding at Hazlewood Castle & Spa, give her a call her on 01937 535315 If you need a photographer  for your day, please get in touch. They were lucky as it turns out, as now weddings and indeed social gatherings of any kind are now just a memory for most of us. My heart goes out to all my Bride and Grooms that have had to move their weddings, but know that when you do get to stand in front of your friends and family, it will be even more wonderful!

Principal Hotel Wedding Photography//Sadie and Jan https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2020/2/principal-hotel-wedding-photography-sadie-and-jan Back in August last year I had the amazing pleasure to capture another wedding one of my favourite York wedding venues. It is always a pleasure going to The Principal Hotel, York.  I know the wedding will run perfectly and the bride and groom will have an unforgettable day for all the right reasons!

And Sadie and Jan's day was no exception.

From the minute I arrived in the bridal suite to capture Sadie, her daughter and bridesmaid getting ready, right through till the first dance and beyond, it was perfect.

The day was full of tears, both of sadness and of joy. Jan's brother, Cpl Marcin Wojtack who sadly died in 2009, was never far from his mind. There were many references to him through the day and I know all his family were thinking of him. However, the love and happiness shared by everyone throughout the day was truly lovely to see.

The wedding breakfast was a true celebration, especially when the secret waitresses gate crashed the party! With a great mix of classic tunes, everyone was up dancing and singing and the groomsmen certainly raised the roof with a bit of stripping!

After the food and dancing Jan, Sadie and I took a lovely stroll around the gardens for some portraits.

Then in no time at all the evening party got underway, the DJ did a great job of getting everyone up and dancing and the photobooth was busy all evening.

To capture such a stunning wedding and spend my day with Jan and Sadie was an honour and a pleasure! Thank you to you both for letting me share your day and I wish you all the best for your future happiness as a family.

On a personal note, I have read the story of Cpl Marcin Wojtak and realised just how special he was. He was a member of the RAF Regiment. He was part of 34 squadron, which is based at RAF Leeming. I was stationed there myself early in 2000 and although I am sure our paths never crossed, I did work with and was friends with many of the guys in the regiment. His family set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund, which is also a charity close to my heart with many of my family and friends from military backgrounds. I wish them all well with their fund raising efforts!

Thank you, as ever to the team at The Principal Hotel for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Holly about having your wedding at The Principal, give her a call her on 01904 653681.

Principal Hotel Weddings//Emma and Jon https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2020/1/principal-hotel-weddings-emma-and-jon Sometime early in 2019 I was at a Wedding Fair just minding my own business when I was approached by this couple. They were cool, funny, so well suited  and so much fun. As we chatted, they told me of some of their plans for their wedding. There was talk of a pub quiz instead of traditional speeches, a brass band, a casino and so much more.  We instantly hit it off and when they told me what they wanted for their wedding day at Christmas, I was in. I just knew I had to capture it for them!

So, fast forward 12 months and there we all were on the 28th December 2019 at The Principal Hotel and their day did not disappoint!

The boys were ready to go right on time and looked very dapper in their Marc Darcy suits. Beau, Emma and Jon's son, was a perfect miniature of his Dad, even if he wouldn't put on his jacket. Although from what I heard the fact that he was in most of the suit was a break through as only a week early he wouldn't even put the trousers on.

Oh, and I just loved the golden paper buttonholes from Paper Bouquets UK. They looked great on suits.

Meanwhile up in the bridal suite, the ladies were just finishing up getting ready. The bridesmaids rocked their green dresses and gold wraps, a perfect colour combination for a Christmas wedding.

And Emma just looked stunning. Her make-up was perfect, her hair style and colour complimented her look and once her veil was in place, she was picture perfect!

Her dress was designed by Maggie Sottero. It was truly romantic and utterly feminine. The 'Mallory Dawn' is a  long-sleeved ball gown wedding dress and is a beautiful thing to behold. With its lace motifs, tulle, nude bodice and beaded belt it fitted Emma like a glove, she was born to wear a dress just like this!

Then it was time for the ceremony and that was full of every emotion that a ceremony should have. Emma decided that she would walk herself down the aisle, but as she took a few steps towards Jon, you could see she was only just holding together. Jon, looking back up the aisle saw how emotional his bride to be was and practically ran up the aisle to meet her. After the tears of love, there was laughter and a lot of it! Jon's middle name seemed to cause much hilarity for his friends, especially as the Registrar had to say it more than once or twice.

After the ceremony it was onto the  reception and while their guest enjoyed their drinks and some close-up magic from the talented Rich Reynolds, Jon, Emma and I took the opportunity to capture some beautiful portraits in the opulent surroundings of the hotel. The Principal is the perfect winter wedding venue, with its stunning staircase, modern chandeliers and my favourite ever hotel corridor. Who knew I would even have one of those?

Now, as I mentioned earlier there was to be no speeches, instead Jon and Emma wrote a 'pub quiz' which was to take place at the end of the meal. Emma did a superb job as quiz master and every table took the thing very seriously, even giving themselves some great team names!

Straight after the quiz it was time to take the picture of all pictures! Emma and Jon are not from York, but it holds a very special place in their hearts and one of the photographs they really wanted was at the Shambles. The Shambles is an old street in York, with overhanging timber-framed buildings, some dating back as far as the fourteenth century. So, with my husband acting as chauffeur, we legged it into York. And it couldn't have gone any better!

By the time we got back to the hotel it was time for the party and again it wasn't going to be just an ordinary party. After the gorgeous cake, made by Jon's sister, was cut and the first dance had finished it was time for some music. But obviously it was not going to be ordinary, Emma and Jon had booked Back Chat Brass, an amazing band with a difference. Their brassy twist on classic tunes combined with some fun showmanship certainly had everyone singing and dancing along, including me.

Emma and Jon's day was so special in many ways, but it wasn't just about the quiz, or the magician, or the band, or the food, it was about so much more than that!

To be part of it for me was such an honour and although Emma and Jon live in Kent, I love having them as my new friends X

And, if you want to know what they thought of me, here is what they said.......

"Jo was incredible on the day. She burst into the bridal suite like a little ball of fire, having already snapped a load of photos of all the groomsmen and guests. She is probably one of the hardest working Photographers I have ever met (as is her husband!) and literally didn’t stop until well into the evening. She was organised, efficient and was genuinely focused on not just getting us the best shots, but also ensuring we still enjoyed our day. Nothing was too much trouble and she even drove us (well Darryl did!) into the centre of York for our SENSATIONAL Shambles photo. We absolutely made the right choice picking Jo. We found lots of cheap Photographers that we could have contacted, but none of them “got us” like she did. It was the best feeling going through all of our photos thinking “how on Earth are we meant to choose the best ones when there are so many?!” Instead of “well that ones alright I guess.”
Thank you jo for capturing our best memories xxx"

Thank you, as ever to the team at The Principal Hotel for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Holly about having your wedding at The Principal, give her a call her on 01904 653681.

If you need a photographer  for your day, please get in touch. I would love meet you for coffee to hear more about your day, I can show you some more of my work and we can see if we get on. Give me a ring on 01904 533476 or drop me a line on jo@joannebphotography.co.uk

JoanneB photography//Award winning Yorkshire Wedding Photographer https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/12/joanneb-photography-award-winning-yorkshire-wedding-photographer

As some of you may know, this year I won an award for Outstanding Customer Service and I thought I should take a little time and explain to you all about it and exactly why it means so much!

The North of England wedding Awards in association with The Wedding Guide UK are Yorkshire and North East England’s, are the most prestigious awards for client service. The Awards recognise those businesses which go the extra mile for their customers, providing outstanding service and inspiring their customers to want to actively and positively promote them.

This competition wasn't about the number of weddings I had shot, it didn't matter if I received one vote or 50, what mattered most was what my couples said about me and my service.

So, over a few months in the summer, I contacted all my bride and grooms from the previous year and asked them to kindly vote and give some feedback to the North of England Wedding Awards. The judges then read all the nominations and went onto base their decisions on the customer comments in relation to the four key measures, Excellent Service, Product Quality, Value for Money, ‘Going the Extra Mile’

On the 23rd September, my husband and I attended the awards ceremony at the Racecourse, York. Where amongst many of the other industry leaders, I was named the category winner for outstanding customer service, 2019.

A few days after the ceremony, while I was still walking on air, I received an email from the award organisers and attached were the feedback forms that all my lovely couples had sent in. I got to read exactly what my couples had thought.

And after the tears, I just thought I would like to share some of the feedback with you!

"Jo made our wedding day and the lead up to our wedding amazing. Even in Christmas 2017 she was thinking about us when we received a lovely personal Christmas card. Communicating with her was so easy and she was really up for all our crazy ideas, making us feel so at ease.
She captured our day beautifully and when we received our photos back they were more then perfect, she even gifted us some free prints which we have now made a collage of and framed on our wall. It was a perfect match to our wedding album.
One moment that will forever stay with me is when my brother, who conducted our ceremony, started to sob as I reached the end of the aisle. I had NEVER seen him like this and had to give him a hug to help him calm down. Jo captured this moment with two magical photos, one of the hug and one of us with our heads together talking it through. I love my brother but we don't have a huggy relationship so for her to capture this in picture was the best wedding gift I could ever receive.
Jo is so much more then a photographer and myself and husband are so glad we chose her. She more than deserves this award, our wedding day just wouldn't have been the same without her".

Sarah and Cole, The Old Swan, Harrogate, August 2018

"Jo was amazing and captured every moment of our wedding perfectly. Not only did we love her - but all our friends and family have sung her praises. Her beautiful pictures that she took of our special day will be treasured and adored for many years to come. Everyone loved Jo. She's amazing and made our day extra special. We were delighted with her services and she's the loveliest person you'll ever meet"!

Sadie and Felix, The Grand Hotel, May 2019

"There is only one winner for the ‘outstanding customer service’ award, and that’s Joanne B!

From the moment we first met Jo, we knew she was the wedding photographer for us - it was her warm and friendly personality, coupled with her fantastic sense of fun and humour that helped us make the decision that Jo was the woman to capture the most important day of our lives.

With Jo it’s all about the little touches (which to us were the most important) we booked Jo far in advance of our wedding, in between we had Christmas and Valentine’s Day, and on both occasions we received a lovely hand written card including chocolates on valentines! It was a lovely touch...

Then our wedding day arrived and from having met with jo many of times, exchanged lots of useful emails with jo providing support and advice along the way, as well as having a fun morning a few weeks before on our pre wedding shoot, it felt like a friend was taking our wedding photos rather than a supplier.

Jo worked in perfect balance of formal and natural photos and the way she managed our guests to ensure we got the most fantastic photos was outstanding - all of our guests commented how approachable and professional Jo was...but we already knew that! :)

The way Jo immersed herself into our wedding day proved she loves her job and works so hard to capture every precious moment of your big day. And for that I can’t thank her enough, jo felt like an extended wedding guest and that was due to her dedication pre wedding to really get to know us, finding out what we liked to ensure we got the photos we wanted from our wedding day! And the good news is we did, the photos are incredible...

Thanks to Jo’s hard work and going that extra mile from the moment we met her, we have the most amazing wedding photos and memories that will last a life time...not to mention making a friend along the way".

Laura and Patrick, The Principal Hotel, July 2019

"From the moment we met Jo, we both felt at ease with her. She is a professional with a sense of humour. On the day she got everyone together for the group pics without taking too much time away from celebrating. The rest of the time you wouldn't have even known she was snapping away in the background. We can't wait to see our photos".

Sue and Scott, The Parsonage Hotel, June 2019

"Jo provided us with an outstanding service from start to end, we met her at an open day, and really got the sense of her commitment to making sure she captured our day perfectly so we booked her.  She even sent us a valentine card and mini gift In February, in fact she kept in touch throughout the process (over a year and half in the planning) we had a pre wedding shoot before the wedding which was brilliant, Jo completely put us at ease and we really got to know her and her us.  She made every effort to ensure we got the photo’s we had discussed. She was brilliant with us and working effortlessly around the guests on the day, really fitting in, but getting the shots we had asked for.  Looking at the gallery which was sent to us very promptly after the wedding she has really captured our special day and it tells the story perfectly, we are so pleased with the result.  Jo’s after service and attention is also brilliant and she is currently helping us put an album together.  We couldn’t have wished for anyone better, because we truly believe there is no-one that could beat her attention to detail and strong commitment to customer service hence why she deserves this award".

Rob and Rachel, The Principal Hotel, June 2019

"The photos are absolutely beautiful, I have lost hours scrolling through them. Everyone said how perfectly Jo captured the emotion of the day - and now with it all being over you realise just how important the photos (and therefore a fantastic Photographer) are! We cannot explain how much we appreciate the time & effort Jo put in on the day."

Victoria and Stu, The Grand Hotel, January 2019

"From start to finish Jo went out of her way to ensure that our day was special. In the run up to our wedding Jo was quick at responding to any queries we had. The pre shoot was fantastic and a great opportunity to go through the day and ask any questions. On the day Jo was amazing, capturing shots without been intrusive. She even made a full wedding party shot possible! After the wedding we promptly received our wedding package with additional photos free which was lovely. I would highly recommend Jo to any of my friends".

Kelly and Lawrence, The Principal Hotel, November 2018

"Joanne captured the essence of our day in beautiful pictures. We can never thank her enough. We are happy to vote for you, at short notice you helped make our day just perfect".

Gail and Lawrence, The Grand Hotel, November 2018

"All of my guests said how professional and friendly Joanne was and asked for details for future weddings".

Natalie and Joe, The Principal Hotel, December 2018

"While I am sure every other one of the nominees for this award is very worthy of that status, Jo is the thoroughbred in this race!
She simply went above and beyond in every single aspect of our wedding, before, during and after.
She indulged Ann’s and my mutual passion of York City Football Club in our pre-shoot. It was also the last full season of football at a ground almost 100 years old, so we ended up with life long memories on two counts. Jo bought into that passion, demonstrated her own and turned that occasion into a ‘biggie’ in itself.
On the wedding day, she was so committed without at any stage being an interference. We wanted to treat he as one of our guests, and did so, such is her undoubted professionalism.

Her military background gives her an eye for the unusual and attention to intimate detail.

It is this, combined with her unbridled (no pun!) enthusiasm, passion for customer service and great photography that makes Jo stand out.

After the wedding day, we received everything we needed in a very tim
ely and professional manner of course, but again, it was that attention to detail and commitment that stood out in our lasting images of our special day".

Steve and Anne, Middletons Hotel, June 2018

"Jo was absolutely great. From the moment that we contacted her she was so helpful. She always responded to emails really quickly. When she came out to our house to discuss the wedding she was really helpful, putting us both at ease and making some really great suggestions about the types of photographs that we might like because we were unsure what we wanted. She also brought with her lots of photographic material for us to look at which was really helpful to us in deciding on what we wanted.

In addition to this she stayed in touch right from the beginning up until our wedding day - even sending us a card at Christmas - which was just such a lovely touch.

The very best thing of all though was that Jo was absolutely great at engaging with all of our guests at the Wedding, managing to gather us all up and get us all together for the photographs - all the while being very lovely and smiley and friendly. Everyone liked her. She has a great way of interacting with people that made everyone feel quite happy and cheerful. This really did make a huge difference to our big day.
I think that if anyone should win an award it should be Jo. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to people, because the service that she provided was outstanding and therefore I think that she should win this award"!

Viki and Simon, The Grand Hotel, April 2019

"From the first time I met Jo I knew we had to have her. She went out of her way to show us other photos to the style we wanted, my husband loved her as much as I did when he met her. She was absolutely fantastic on the wedding day. Guests said she was so lovely and a great addition to have! Our photos are incredible and I proudly have them in place round our home".

Vicky and Aaron, The Crown Hotel, July 2018

"Jo was everything we could have asked for as a photographer. She was professional yet calm, never got in anybody’s way, made everybody laugh and made the effort to chat to guests. We had so many compliments about her from our family and friends. For people who hate having their photo taken, she made us feel at ease and got the natural shots that we wanted. She also got our photos back to us very soon after the wedding and even made amendments to some editing on my request! She went that extra mile to offer a 5 star service and we couldn’t have faulted her on anything"!

Emily and Lewis, The Bridge Hotel, March 2018

"I would like Jo to win as from the first meet she instantly made me and my husband feel comfortable and didn't pester you like some wedding providers can she is like your best friend but remains professional throughout! This is one reason other than her amazing photos we picked her..an instant connection. She really helped us to relax and get used to our photograph being taken when we had our pre wedding shoot out in the cold may I add. She was always so quick with sending our photos back and keeping in touch regularly.
When it was valentine's day she sent us some chocolates through the post with a lovely card! It really was the perfect touch and made us feel more than a client!
On our wedding day Jo fit in perfect with our family and she was a pleasure to have around and our photos are the most perfect memories we have to keep forever! She really is amazing. When Jo dropped our final photos and USB stick round to our house she had gift wrapped it so beautifully and got us a little gift. She is so thoughtful and I genuinely believe she always goes that extra mile! I would always recommend her work and I really hope she wins"!

Amy and Liam, The Principal Hotel, September 2018

"Jo stepped in relatively last minute (as far as weddings go) after our other photographer had to pull out. She made time to make sure we met her first and could get to know her before booking her in. She also came to us to meet, which was a nice touch. Before the wedding, she was always available and in our meetings Jo made sure to run through the entire day in terms of the photos and helped us to make sure we did not forget anything (or anyone!) important. On the day she was amazing, everything was done quickly and simply with the portraits and the rest of the day she blended into the background, but was always on hand to capture the perfect moment or when we wanted her for a photo with someone. Then after the wedding, even though we'd said we would be away for a couple of weeks, she'd sorted and sent out our photos within a week of the wedding. Jo was amazing for our wedding".

Jane and Nicholas, Sandburn Hall, April 2018

"Jo is absolutely fabulous, from the minute you meet her she’s so friendly and completely puts you at ease! She’s so good at her job and definitely goes above and beyond in what she does. We even got a Christmas card and some Valentines chocolates as little extra surprises before our wedding! She’s definitely more than just a supplier and it really felt like we had a friend there on our wedding day. She works really hard and absolutely deserves this award"!

Laura and Jon, The Crab and Lobster, October 2018

"Jo was so good! When the seamstress messed up my two daughters bridesmaids dresses with both my daughters in tears because the dresses wear ruffled at the backs making them look un wearable jo took it upon herself to go to the hotel reception and ask for a sewing kit she then unpicked the stitching and re stitched my daughters dresses (ages 8 & 10) this really not only calmed me but the whole bridal team and made my two young girls smile again. Throughout the day she went above and beyond even offered to drive me to her house to change gowns as the venue had no where for me to change into my evening gown. Our photos are of an amazing quality and a good price. Also, leading up to the wedding we even received a valentines day card and chocolates. Jo was so easy to get along with, all my guests commented on how lovely Jo was. She made an effort to ask any guest if there were any photos with family they want.  I really can not speak highly enough of Jo, her customer service without  a doubt is outstanding and it felt like myself and my husband had known her for years due to how at ease she made us and how welcoming and helpful she was. I really hope Joanne wins best of luck Jo from the capes's".

Karla and Andy, Melodies, September 2018

"Jo was professional and our wedding album is amazing! Fantastic picture quality and nothing was too much trouble".

Sabrina and Richard, The Hospitium, August 2018

"From the moment we first saw Jo, she put us at ease, she made a massive effort to do our pre wedding shoot in Whitby, over an hours drive away so that we could be at the place where we got engaged. She sent well wishing cards on Valentine’s Day prior to the wedding and maintained professionalism towards all of my family and friends on the big day. We had photo previews almost immediately and she always kept us in the loop with what was going on. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to anybody who is getting married- our photos are amazing".

Hannah and Richard, The Maze, June 2018

"Joanne delivered an outstanding service, she captured every aspect of the day with beautiful images that were ready to view within a week. Leading up to the wedding she kept in close contact and was happy to meet up to keep track of the photo list. This made sure nobody was forgotten on the day. I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. She was with us and worked hard from hair and make up until the first dance and did not stop all day. Our album was stunning and was very patient when we could not decide on which photos to choose, once chosen the album was delivered within a couple of weeks and was stunning".

Francesca and Joel, The Parsonage Hotel, August 2018

"Jo was lovely from the minute we met her until she delivered our images. We knew the minute we met her that she was the photographer we wanted.
Nothing was too much trouble for her. She made everyone feel at ease and took some fantastic pictures. They are all so good we still haven't got any enlarged as we don't know which to pick!!! If we contacted her she answered us straight away,  she knew before we did what it was that we wanted!!
Everyone at our wedding commented how great she was".

Sian and Johnathan, The Hilton Hotel, December 2018

"We had a very small wedding, but we knew we definitely wanted a professional Photographer to capture the ceremony and then take a few outdoor portraits of us and the family.  We reached out to Joanne and she was the perfect person for the job - professional, relaxed and very friendly and she's captured some beautiful memories that will treasure for years to come. The images are all beautiful and were delivered much quicker than we expected. Joanne even sent us an Anniversary card, which we thought was a sweet gesture".

Kasia and Jim, Harrogate Registry Office and Harlow Carr Gardens, June 2018

"Jo was an absolute super star and I would have been lost without her on the day. She is full of imagination and created some truly incredible photo shots. She captured our day even better than we could have ever imagined".

Steph and Ric, The Pavilion Hotel, March 2018

"Joanne stepped up as our chosen photographer was unwell. She dropped everything and made us feel super welcome and relaxed. She was friendly and bubbly and made the whole day run like clockwork. She listened carefully to our wishes and our album is beautiful".

Lois and Callum, The Parsonage Hotel, April 2018

"Can't begin to explain how friendly and downright awesome Jo was, both leading up to the big day and the wedding itself. Despite living in London, we still had chance to meet beforehand, talk about our ideas and get some pre-shoot pics done.
All emails were replied to quickly and she put us at ease, letting us know what to expect on the big day.
On the day itself, Jo was great. Made everybody feel at ease and we got some truly memorable pictures of our special day.
Would highly recommend Jo to anybody in the York or North Yorkshire area if you need a great photographer"!

Grattan and Laura, The Grand Hotel, October 2018

"Jo was amazing really from start to finish. Super organised and put us at ease. Sent us chocolates on Valentine’s Day, met with us many times to make sure we got on and would get exactly what we wanted. The excitement in her eyes as she reviewed the shots of us that she was taking proved we’d made a great choice. Cannot recommend her highly enough"!

Sally and Alex, Grays Court Hotel, July 2018

"Jo went above and beyond for put wedding. Not only is she an amazing photographer and took photos that will be treasured forever she got in perfect into our wedding day. She made me feel at ease and helped make the day go so perfect".

At this time of year, when things are starting to slow a little and the nights are drawing in, it is always nice to look back on some of the weddings I have been privileged to be part over the last 12 months.

I get to reflect on how fabulous my year has been and I always want to share some of the weddings with you, but choosing the best ones to feature is not easy!

This one however had to make the cut, for so many reasons. The couple were lovely to spend time with, their friends and family were so much fun and the venue was stylish and elegant. Everything they planned, looked truly wonderful. The colour scheme, the flowers, the dress, the cake it was all perfect and even the weather didn't disappoint!  For a Saturday in September it really was lovely meaning we even got outside onto the bar walls to capture that iconic view over York.

I had met Emma and Chris plenty of times before the wedding, so on the day itself it was like watching friends get married.

And everything went off without a hitch, well apart from the Best man nearly burning the place down, that is!

It was such a lovely day, everything was amazing. Thank you again to Emma and Chris for choosing me to capture it for you!

Thank you to the team at The Grand Hotel and Spa for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Jody about having your wedding at The Grand, call her on 01904 380038

Grays Court Hotel Wedding Photography//Sally and Alex https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/10/grays-court-hotel-wedding-photography-sally-and-alex

Way back in the summer, I had the amazing pleasure to capture Alex and Sally's wedding at Grays Court Hotel York. It was my first time capturing a wedding at Grays and what a fabulous wedding it was.

As I sit and think about this wedding, it fills with me with joy. Alex and Sally, were such a relaxed, fun loving couple who really had planned their day to be the same. From the outset it was going to be a day full of laughter. The girls had plenty of giggles in the rooms whilst getting ready, especially when the Japanese tourists on the York bar walls spotted the bride through the window, waved and shouted their congratulations to her. In the courtyard downstairs, the boys were helping each other do their buttonholes, which seemed to go well, but then it should have because amongst them were many Doctors and Surgeons, who made short work of using the pins to attach the flowers!

Originally the ceremony was to take place outside in the stunning gardens at Grays Court, but unfortunately the British weather had other ideas. At the very last minute the ceremony was moved inside and as the guests were being seated ready for the arrival of the bride, the skies darkened and heavens opened!

Luckily from then on, apart from the very odd shower, it was out into the gardens and many terraces to enjoy the sunshine. The gardens were beautiful and with the added floral displays by Joanna Keely it really did look like a true english garden. Brett and Andrew from 24-Live played some cracking tunes to entertain the wedding party whilst they enjoyed their reception drinks. Alex, Sally and I took this opportunity to take sneak away to capture some pictures of just the two of them. This has to be one of the best locations I have ever seen for a city centre hotel.  With the historic bar walls surrounding the gardens on one side and York Minster on the other, trust me when I say, it doesn't get much better!

Inside the scene was set for the wedding breakfast and as Sally and Alex made their grand entrance, there was just time for them to stop off and down a quick shot of tequila which was met by a very loud round of applause. Both Alex and Sally are medical professionals, as were many of their guests, meaning that there were some particularly embarrassing anecdotes for the best man to share. The speeches were funny, heartfelt and embarrassing in equal measure!

Later into the day, the bride and groom cut the cake, which I believe was handmade by Sally's mum, and then it was time for the first dance. Afterwards, the guest and the band, moved back into the garden where there was a bit more dancing and a lot more drinking. As the day turned into early evening, the guests relaxed and enjoyed the sunshine with Brett and Andrew's acoustic tones filling the gardens and terraces with covers of some great songs that everyone knows.

As I said my goodbyes to the bride and groom, their friends and families, I just knew that Sally and Alex had got exactly the wedding day they wanted.

It was such a lovely day, everything was amazing! The gardens, the flowers, Sally's dress, her bridesmaids, the venue, I can't begin to tell you just how good it all was. Alex and Sally, their friends and family made my day such a pleasure that sometimes I can't believe how truly lucky I am to do what I do for a living!!

Recently I was nominated and won the Best Customer Service Provider (Photography) in the North of England Wedding Awards. Alex and Sally were kind enough to vote. This is what they wrote;

"Jo was amazing from start to finish. Super organised, managed to put us at ease. She sent us chocolates on Valentines Day, met us many times to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. The excitement in her eyes as she reviewed the shots of us that she was taking on the day, proved we made a great choice. We cannot recommend her highly enough"

Woodstock Wedding photography//Louise and Paul https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/10/woodstock-wedding-photography-louise-and-paul

It's not often that I go to a new wedding venue, they don't tend to spring up every week, but back in the summer I had the amazing pleasure of doing just that!

Paul and Louise had chosen to have a smaller mid-week wedding at the brand new Woodstock Weddings and Events, York.

And, wow! What a stunning venue it is. They really have thought of everything. The little touches are sublime and as a photographer I don't think I would ever run out of locations in which to capture the bride and groom.

I know that Paul and Louise booked their wedding at Woodstock because of how unique, relaxed and flexible the venue was.

When I arrived the drinks were already flowing and everyone was happy and relaxed in the outside courtyard and in the converted stables. Louise and Paul wanted a relaxed day and that was exactly what they got.

Louise arrived by car and was ushered into one of the most beautiful stables I have been in. Hidden away from all the guests and the groom to be, she got to relax with her flowergirl and father until it was time to walk across the courtyard to the ceremony.

Louise made a lovely entrance with her father walking her down the aisle. The ceremony itself taking place in front of large bi folding doors, not only meaning that Louise and Paul have a great view but also that the light is beautiful and natural. As the new Mr & Mrs made their way back up the aisle, their guests were ready with the confetti. And I always love a good confetti exit!

After the ceremony it was back into the courtyard for drinks before the speeches, which were followed by some photographs in the grounds of Woodstock.

With sprawling vistas over the countryside, a fabulous lane draped with gorgeous trees, a five bar gate and enclosed green lawned area, it really is easy to capture some gorgeous pictures of the bride and groom without having to disappear for hours on end.

The wedding breakfast which followed, it was an informal affair with a bbq served to everyone and was followed by the most amazing dessert platters I have ever seen.

As the party got started it was time for me to leave, but I am sure that they all had a fabulous evening!

I truly had the best time capturing Louise and Paul's special day at this unique wedding venue!

Principal Hotel Wedding Photography//Laura and Patrick https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/9/principal-hotel-wedding-photography-laura-and-patrick

As the summer comes to an end, I finally get chance to reflect on weddings that I had the joy to capture during the sunnier months (well, allegedly).

The first one I just had to revisit was the gorgeous and lovely Laura and Patrick who tied the knot back in July.

Events began early in the morning at Laura’s family home where the girls all got ready together.

There was a lovely atmosphere in the house and I was honoured to be part of it.  During the morning, Patrick had arranged for a few surprises to happen. Firstly there was a gift, a box of chocolates with a clue indicating there would be a knock at the door at 10.30. It was all very “Milk Tray” man.

And then right on the dot, there was a man at the door! He was hand delivering Laura’s something blue, an Omega watch!

Then it was time for Laura’s Dad to come and see his daughter for the first time in her dress. I cannot begin to tell you just how emotional it was. Dad took a good 5 minutes to compose himself before he could even walk in the room. There were tears, lots and lots of tears, mine included!
Thank you to all the parents that let me share those amazing, heart melting moments with them!

After all the preparation it was time for the ceremony at St Paul’s Church, Acomb, York. Patrick and his groomsmen were all there looking very dapper, ready for Laura's arrival. It was a lovely ceremony, there was a choir who incidentally sang the Leeds football anthem at one point during the service. It was a fun, love filled, gorgeous ceremony!

Heading out from the church, we did a great confetti shot with all their friends and family taking part. Then it was onto The Principal Hotel for the wedding breakfast and celebrations. The bride and groom travelled in style in a stunning vintage car. There was even transport for the guests, Laura and Patrick really did think of everything on their day!

The wedding breakfast went perfectly. There was a scratch card competition for all the guests to take part in and a bottle of Prosecco with a sparkler for the winners! The Father of the Bride was also presented with a giant cheque for a whopping £8. Apparently that was what was his change left over from the wedding budget!

The weather was fabulous all day so we used the gorgeous grounds for some photographs before heading inside to capture Laura and Patrick in the opulent surroundings and architecture of the Principal's interior.

Then it was time for the party! After the cake cutting and a gorgeous first dance by the bride and groom it was time to get up and boogie. The band were amazing and I am sure everyone was still on their feet long after I went home to rest mine.

Head down through the photographs to find all the suppliers details!

Laura and Patrick wanted to say thank you to all the suppliers that made their day perfect with a couple of special thanks to a few that really went above and beyond.

Firstly, Nicole at Elise Design who made the mother of the brides outfit, altered all the bridesmaids dresses and the brides dress. Laura says that she virtually took her dress to pieces before turning it into the dress of her dreams!

Also, the staff at The Principal and in particular Holly and Beth. As a self confessed perfectionist and an events manager herself, Laura knew what she wanted and the team at the hotel supported her fully and made sure that their wedding was the best day of their lives.

It was such a lovely day, one I will remember as one of my favourites for a long time to come! Thank you to Laura and Patrick, their friends and family for making my job such a pleasure on their day. I hope my photographs bring them all lots of joy for many years to come.

Thank you as ever to Holly and the fabulous team at The Principal for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Holly or Helen about having your wedding at The Principal, call them on 01904 653681.

And if you need a photographer  for your day, please get in touch. I would love meet you for coffee to hear more about your day, I can show you some more of my work and we can see if we get on. Give me a ring on 01904 533476 or drop me a line on jo@joannebphotography.co.uk

Parsonage Hotel wedding photography//Lucy-and-Chris https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/6/parsonage-hotel-wedding-photography-lucy-and-chris

On a sunny day (hopefully they will be back again soon) Lucy and Chris tied the knot at their local church before heading off to celebrate at The Parsonage Hotel and I had the job of capturing their fabulous day!

It was a day full of love and family. There was a closeness at the wedding that was lovely to witness.

The ladies spent the morning getting ready at Chris and Lucy's house.

Now, the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that there were four bridesmaid dresses hanging up in the first picture, but there are only three bridesmaids in the one below. Emma was sadly missing, having given birth literally hours earlier.

Congratulations!

Emma, her husband and their new arrival did however, make an appearance at the wedding ceremony.

Chris and his Bestman, who also happened to be his Dad, enjoyed the sunshine before the ceremony.

The April sunshine was amazing, especially given our current rainy spell and the cherry blossom looked so beautiful.

After a wonderful ceremony, a confetti throw in the sunshine and a final kiss at the church it was time to head to The Parsonage.

The neutral colours in the newly decorated Crystal Suite meant that Lucy and Chris's colours looked stylish and classy. With gorgeous centre pieces and hessian and lace chair ties, the Parsonage was just perfect!

And Sweet Chic did a great job with the wedding cake.

After dinner, the Bride, Groom and I took a stroll a bit further around the hotel, capitalising on the lovely grounds of the Parsonage and the warm early evening sunshine.

Then it was time to party!

Undercovered made sure that sitting down was not an option. The entire wedding party loved the band, especially the Farther of the Bride who danced his wedding day socks off.

And then it was time for FIREWORKS!

It really was a wonderful day!

It was all about family and that made it so special. Both Dad's were key to the event, one was Bestman and the other was the very proud Father of the Bride.

And

It was all about surprises, wonderful, heartfelt surprises!

Emma and her new baby made a special trip to see the ceremony, there was also a live band for the evening entertainment. Lucy's father was over the moon, as he loves live music. Then it was all topped off with a full firework display.

Chris and Lucy finished off their photography package with this amazing album and matching USB.

If you would like to speak to Natalie about holding your wedding day at The Parsonage, you can call her on 01904 728111.

Do you need a photographer  for your day, please get in touch. I would love meet you for coffee to hear more about your day, I can show you some more of my work and we can see if we get on. Give me a ring on 01904 533476 or drop me a line on jo@joannebphotography.co.uk

Grand Hotel & Spa Wedding Photography//Felix and Sadie https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/6/grand-hotel-spa-wedding-photography-felix-and-sadie Back in May, when the sun was shining, do you remember that? Well, I had the greatest pleasure of capturing Felix and Sadie's wedding at The Grand Hotel.

I first met Felix and Sadie early in 2018, which meant that by the time the wedding came round, we were the best of friends! It was a real joy to see these two lovely people say I DO.

While Sadie and the ladies got ready in one of the beautiful suites upstairs, Felix, his boys and his family were arriving downstairs.

Once everyone was ready, it was time to head to the grand boardroom for the ceremony.

I don't think there is anything more beautiful than a proud father escorting his daughter to her wedding!

Sadie and Felix took the opportunity to write their own vows and recite them in front of their friends and families. There were a few tears shed and while the couple signed the register, Felix was emotionally touched by what had just happened, after all he had just married his best friend!

The grand boardroom looked amazing when it was set and ready for the wedding breakfast. Ambience Venue Styling, did a great job with the blackboards, chairs and sashes, the flowers by Dutch Nurseries were stunning and the cake by Poppy Pickering cakes was chic and stylish.

In between the dinner and the evening reception and while the sun still shone, we took a quick walk over to the bar walls to get the shot that everyone should have on their wedding day if they get married in York!

I can't tell you just how cute all the children were at the wedding. As the DJ played some tunes, the kids just had so much fun!

It was such a lovely day, one I will remember as one of my favourites for a long time to come! Thank you to Sadie and Felix, their friends and family for making my job such a pleasure on their day. I hope my photographs bring them all lots of joy for many years to come.

Thank you as ever too Megan and the fabulous team at The Grand for letting me be part of their organisation for the day. If you want to speak to Megan about having your wedding at The Grand, call her on 01904 380038.

Sandburn Hall Wedding Photography Jane and Nicholas https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/4/sandburn-hall-wedding-photography-jane-and-nicholas I had the absolute pleasure to be back at Sandburn Hall in April, to capture Jane and Nicholas's big day. With a bright colour scheme and plenty of personal touches they got exactly the look they were after for their wedding day!

The colours chosen by Jane and Nicholas had such presence and were matched beautifully to the the woodland surroundings. The bouquet and buttonholes from Dutch Nurseries were stunning, Jane even said they were even better than she'd hoped for. For me they had the visual impact that a photographer sometimes longs for!

And outside the light was just perfect for a wedding in such a setting.

As scientists both the Bride and Groom wanted something unique to them and the effort they put into designing their day, shone through. Their personalised centrepieces used conical jars as vases and the tables were named after Chemists, Physiologists and Mathematicians. The flowers, for the vases came from Triangle Nursery and were arrange into beautiful displays by Jane, Nick and their Mum's.

So much of the day was down to Jane and Nicholas, their family and friends. Jane made the cake with help from her brother and Sophie one of the bridesmaids. The wedding dress, from Dorothy Perkins was cleverly altered by Jane's Mum and paired with a belt from Etsy.

As ever, the seamless organisation by Sandburn Hall meant the day went without a hitch. Everyone complimented the food, the venue and the staff. Special praise went to Beth, Jane's Wedding Co-ordinator and Richard the Operations Manager on the day.

When the lights went down, it was time for dancing and Soundnation DJ took over. Everyone had an amazing time on the dance floor and the party went on long into the night!

It was a great day and I enjoyed every minute of capturing it for Jane, Nicholas and their lovely friends and families.

Stew and Vicki get married at The Grand Hotel https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/3/stew-and-vicki-get-married-at-the-grand-hotel

My first wedding of 2019 was something very special. Stew and Vicki tied the knot at The Grand Hotel on 26th January in front of their friends and family.

It was a most beautiful day, full of romance, tears, love and joy, all tinged with a bit of sadness as Stew's father was unable to attend due to illness. However, a live audio feed during the ceremony ensured that he was able to be part of the event by doing a reading. I know that everyone in the room was moved by his voice wishing his son and new bride well.

The ceremony took place in the grand ballroom.  Ambience Venue Styling did such a beautiful job with their amazing canopy blossom trees, chair covers and sashes and the flowers by Dutch Nurseries flowers finished off a truly romantic look!

Another highlight of the day for me were the speeches. There was plenty of laughter, some appalling "dad dancing" by Stew's friends and the speech made by Stew and then Joshua, Vicki's son were so touching. I think the whole room was in tears, again. I love it when, in a room full of friends and family, the speeches are made from the heart.

After the meal, Stew, Vicki and I took the opportunity to slip away to capture some fabulous images on the bar walls with York Minster in the background and when we returned it was onto the dancing part of the day with music provided by the Southwest  Band.

I am pleased to say that Stew's dad is now much better and I am sure he has enjoyed looking through all the pictures from the wedding day.

It really was one of those weddings that will stay as one of my favourites for quite some time.

Thank you again Stew and Vicki, all your friends and family for making my job an absolute pleasure and I hope your photographs bring you joy for many years to come.

Natalie and Joe's Christmas wedding at the Principal York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/2/natalie-and-joes-Christmas-wedding-at-the-principal-york

In between Christmas and New Year, may seem like a strange time to get married, but trust me it can be so much more fun than you would expect.

Natalie and Joe did exactly that. On the 29th December they tied the Knot at The Principal Hotel and it was brilliant.

The girls got ready at Natalie's Mum's house, Megan Boyne did an amazing job on all their hair and Jade from The Make up Works made sure that they all stunning!

Dutch Nurseries flowers looked fabulous, the colours matched the bridesmaids dresses perfectly and were so beautiful for a winter wedding. Natalie's dress was just as beautiful, she looked stunning in her gown from Bridal Oasis, Goole.

Meanwhile at the hotel the boys were all ready and waiting for the ceremony to begin.

The day went off without a hitch, well apart from the poor waiter who took a tumble during dinner. Or did he?

The waiter in question was from Silver Service Singers and if you are considering having undercover waiters at your wedding, all I'll say, is do it! They certainly know how to get the party started. Everyone and I mean everyone was on their feet, waving napkins, singing along and having a ball. The Oak room was certainly jumping!

The party continued way into the evening and I am sure all the guests will be talking about how much fun Natalie and Joe's wedding was and what a great way it was to finish off 2018.

Thank you Natalie and Joe for having me capture your winter wedding, it was a great wedding to finish off 2018 with!

A secret wedding in York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2019/2/a-secret-wedding-in-york

Way back in 2018, I had the best time photographing one of my favourite all time weddings. Now, it wasn't a big fancy shmancy event, there wasn't 100's of guests nor was there a horse and carriage, doves been released or even a posh Rolls Royce.

But what there was, was a family making their commitment to each other in a very special way.

I met Maree and Dan, with their two gorgeous little girls and their witnesses on a sunny Friday afternoon at York Registry Office for their ceremony. That morning their little girls were told that later that day their mummy and daddy were going to get married and up until that point the only other people in the whole wide world that knew there was going to be a wedding that day were Maree and Dan's witnesses, the Registrars, Emma at the De Grey Rooms and me!

The timing of the wedding day was critical because a few days later the lovely Maree was having a special birthday. And to celebrate there was going to be a big surprise party that evening at the De Grey Rooms that Dan had invited all their family and friends to. Only there wasn't a going to be a surprise birthday party, no birthday cake or balloons, but what there would be was a Bride & Groom, a band, a wedding cake and a lot of surprised friends and family!

It was a wonderful wedding, pure, simple and stylish. It was fabulous.

Thank you Dan and Maree for letting me in on your secret and for letting me capture it for you!

Weddings at The Parsonage Hotel, York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2018/9/weddings-at-the-parsonage-hotel-york

As one of my favourite hotels to capture weddings at, I was honoured to be invited to their very special showcase recently, when they revealed the transformation of the Crystal Suite.

And all I can say is WOW!

The new look, the subtle greys, mixed with the mirrors and chandeliers, a true modern feel. As a wedding venue in York, it now is one not to be missed and if you are planning your wedding, go and have a look.

Crystal SuiteThe Parsonage Hotel

With the help of Ambience Venue Styling and Limelight Wedding Trees over the top table, it looked beautiful.

No detail has been spared. The finishing touches all around the room and indeed throughout the hotel are modern, yet classic.

The ceremony room has had the same touches applied. With the deep colours on the walls, the mirrors and the clock, which I love, it truly is a gorgeous room in which to say 'I do'.

Recently, the Gin Bar has also had the decorators touch. The whole look is traditional and cosy, with a modern edge.

I obviously wasn't alone on the day. It was lovely to be surrounded by some great wedding suppliers. Ambience Stylings touches to both the ceremony room and Crystal Suite were spot on.

Limelight Trees had placed two of their trees at either end of the top table and their wedding arch on display looked lovely.

It was a pleasure to meet and speak with Suited N Booted.

And Caroline Couture Cakes were as gorgeous looking as they were tasting. I have to admit going back for more than one piece!

Finishing Touches were on hand to discuss flowers and chair covers with many of the bride and grooms to be.

And The Wedding Rooms finished off the day with some beautiful wedding dresses on display.

There are many hotels in and around York that I visit time and again and the Parsonage is one of my favourites. I always get a nice welcome and a drink when I need one.  I always think, if they can make time to grab me a cup of tea, then they can make time to look after their guests!

I love the photographic opportunities that present themselves to me at the Parsonage Hotel. It has gardens on three sides, a fountain, a great staircase and plenty of trees for shade on those hot summer days and all are within seconds of where the party's at. A perfect setting for all your wedding pictures.

Weddings in Harrogate https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2018/7/weddings-in-harrogate

Occasionally, I get asked to photograph a very small, intimate wedding and they can be so special.

Kasia and Jim's wedding in Harrogate was exactly that. With only a few friends and direct family they tied the knot in Harrogate Registry Office, but the real joy of this wedding were the photographs that we then did to follow at RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr.

The colours of the summer were in full bloom, the backdrop for photographs was really something else!

Many thanks to the staff at Harlow Carr for granting us permission to use the gardens.

Wishing Kasia and Jim the very best for their future together!

A 5 Star Wedding Fair at a 5 Star venue - Weddings at The Grand Hotel, York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2018/6/a-5-star-wedding-fair-at-a-5-star-venue---weddings-at-the-grand-hotel-york

Where were you on the Sunday 10th June?

In your garden enjoying the sunshine, working, playing with the kids?

Well I can tell you where I was. I was once again invited to attend the very prestigious Grand Hotel and Spa's Wedding Fair and if you missed it, you missed a treat.

It was by far the best wedding fair, I have EVER attended and I have been to a fair few.

The Grand certainly lived up to it's name on that day. The styling was stunning, the cakes all looked astonishing, the flowers were all divine and the dresses were as stylish as the setting they were stood in, but the show was most definitely stolen by the fabulous entertainers!

Two photo booths provided many laughs and pictures for everyone to take home. Next to me were the fun and fearless Undercover Waiters and who could forget Back Chat Brass. They were an instant hit. With a nod to their roots in pop, funk and hip hop, their brassy twist on classic tunes combined with electrifying showmanship brought a smile to everyone's face!

A stunning wedding fair at the amazing Grand Hotel & spa https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2018/3/a-stunning-wedding-fair-at-the-amazing-grand-hotel-spa

On Sunday 25th February I was fortunate to be invited to exhibit at Yorks only 5* hotel, The Grand Hotel and Spa.

I am proud and honoured to be one of The Grand Hotels recommend wedding suppliers and I am in good company on that list.

It looked as amazing as ever and the caliber of exhibitors present was as impressive.

I captured some images to share and if you didn't get chance to pop in, you'll see all the exhibitors listed at the bottom with links to their websites.

2017 A Review https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2018/2/2017-a-review

So, another years over and a new ones just begun.  And all my wonderful bride and grooms from 2017 are already heading very quickly towards their first wedding anniversary. I can't believe just how fast the year went and just how many lovely weddings I got to photograph.

I  would like to extend a massive amount of gratitude to all the couples who let me share and capture their special day. Truly it is an honour to be given such unlimited access to something so special. Yes, occasionally it's stressful and yes, sometimes I do worry about getting 'that shot' but all in all it is a real joy and pleasure to be involved in that once in a lifetime event.

I must also thank the bridesmaids, best men, grooms men and any of the other key figures who make my day easier. I do not know all the guests, or who needs to be present in a group shot or who is sadly not with us on the day and very often it's the rest of the important people in the wedding who keep me straight.
Often I can be seen using a poor bridesmaid as an umbrella holder or a grooms man as a chauffeur or light stand, so I thank you guys too!

Also, to the rest of the family and wedding party, thank you for your patience when I am sorting out the group shots or pinching the bride and groom to do some portraits. I know you really want to go to the toilet or to the bar, but giving me the opportunity to get that big group photograph before you all disappear like magic is appreciated.

And lastly I would like to say a big thank you to the vicars, registrars, reverends, churches, venues, staff, make up artists, florists, cake makers, room stylists, magicians, hairdressers and anyone else who works within the industry because without you guys, this would not be half as much fun.

Let us all remember we are all there for one reason and one reason only to make the bride and grooms day unforgettable!

(and just in case they do begin to forget, its ok, because I've got that covered)

2017 was a great year for JoanneB Photography with weddings in the Lake District, Cheshire and Yorkshire. I did more referral weddings than ever before which is always nice!

2018 is looking amazing, again with lots of referrals from friends and families of weddings I have done previously and hotels who are happy to have me on their preferred supplier lists. I am proud of the year I have had and cannot wait to do it all again this year!

A Winter Wedding at The Grand Hotel & Spa, York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/12/a-winter-wedding-at-the-grand-hotel-spa-york

I love a good winter wedding and Gary & Lucy's day in November did not disappoint.

The wedding took place at The Grand Hotel & Spa and was a real winter delight. The interior of the hotel lends itself beautifully to the ambience of a winters day with its warm colours and plush furnishings. The atmosphere Lucy really wanted to create was a warm and cosy one with plenty of candles and Christmas lights and she certainly got it.

When in the Grand Hotel there is only one place to photograph a stunning dress and that would be on the stunning staircase. I have to say, that for the reason of safety, Lucy's mum was holding onto the dress tightly while it hung over the beautiful banister!

While the bride to be got ready with her girls around her, so did the boys. Gary and his groomsmen met to do their ties and check that they were all present and correct.

Meanwhile, downstairs the ceremony room was set. It looked warm and inviting, nothing short of magical. Ambience venue styling did an amazing job as ever!

The ladies were ready in plenty of time. The bridesmaids were dressed in gorgeous red gowns whilst Lucy looked stunning in her dress from Forever Yours.

Lucy was escorted to the ceremony by her lovely step-father who was proud and happy to do the honours.

The ceremony went beautifully and the owl behaved impeccably delivering the rings to the bestmen at the front just how he was supposed to.

After the ceremony it was time to capture the family and friends of the newlyweds. The group photographs when taken in the gorgeous splendour of The Grand always look good.

As do the Bride and Groom portraits, particularly when the Grand was looking so Christmassy!

The Grand boardroom looked stunning once set for the wedding breakfast. The cake by Where the Ribbon Ends was painstakingly adorned with flowers from Rosebuds Florists.

The speeches went down really well. As you can see there was plenty of joy and laughter throughout.

After dinner the new Mr & Mrs Brooks took to the floor for their first dance.

Before being joined by all their friends and family for a proper party!

Dual Project did a fabulous 80's set keeping everyone up and dancing. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane and even had a little dance myself to one of my favourites, Tainted Love!

One of the joys of a winter wedding is stepping outside and capturing the evening lights. Lucy had thought ahead and came prepared for the night by purchasing the most divine fur cape in a bold red.

A November wedding wouldn't be complete without a sparkler or two!

We even had time to take a very short stroll across to the bar walls to capture this lovely image of the happy couple with York Minster in the background.

It really was a fabulous winter wedding! I had the most amazing time capturing it all for Lucy and Gary. Their friends and family were a joy to be with and made my job on the day so much fun.

Like most winter weddings it was a technical challenge to achieve all the shots that Lucy and Gary wanted, but I think you will agree that these pictures capture the true essence of what a wedding in November should include!

If you are thinking about having a winter wedding or have already booked your winters date, then please get in touch.

I really do love the challenge that weddings around Christmas time present and I love the images that are the result!

Here is a small compilation video of some of my favourite images from their special day.

I know Hannah and Jack had a wonderful day and I have to say, so did I!

Hannah's Bridal Shower at The Dean Court Hotel https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/7/hannahs-bridal-shower-at-the-dean-court-hotel

On Saturday evening the very lovely Hannah had a very splendid Bridal Shower at the Dean Court Hotel, York.

The event was beautifully organised by one of Hannah's bridesmaids and I was secretly invited with my camera to get some pictures of all the girls together.

And the entertainment for the evening was provided by the talented Lorraine from Swirly Sweets.

Once Lorraine had finished her introduction, the ladies all got stuck in with making decorations for their very own cupcakes.

Everyone had a fabulous time and I can't wait to meet them all again in a few weeks time at Hannah's wedding!

And once the cakes were decorated with all things pretty the ladies enjoyed some more bubbles, some games of their own and what I am sure was a delightful meal.

If you are interested in having your bridal shower photographed then please get in touch.

Lorraine from Swirly Sweets is available for Hen Party cupcake decorating parties in York and can be contacted on 07783 802270.

Joanne and Simon's Wedding at The Parsonage Hotel https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/7/joanne-and-simons-wedding-at-the-parsonage-hotel

On a lovely Saturday morning in April I arrived at Joanne's family home ready to capture her wedding day and I couldn't have been made more welcome!

Some families just make my job so easy and at Joanne and Simon's they couldn't have done more.

Their wedding was all about family.

I arrived early while the girls were all out at Top To Toe, Dunnington having their hair done. While I waited I photographed Joanne's beautiful flowers and her lovely father, John made me a cup of tea. I think John did a great job in the kitchen that morning, keeping the ladies in tea, toast and even some Prosecco while they all got ready.

Joanne's work colleagues had arrange a special surprise for Joanne. Unbeknownst to her, they had organised Make up artist Kelly Medina Enos to do Joanne's wedding day make up. And what a fabulous job she did!

Meanwhile at The Parsonage, the boys were all there present and correct. Simon and his groomsmen all looked very smart in their suits from York Hire Wear.

And the hotel was looking gorgeous.

Finishing Touches had worked their usual magic adding the chair covers and table runners, which always finish a wedding breakfast room off with style!

Joanne and her father arrived in a stunning 1930's vintage wedding car from Ryedale Limousines ready for the ceremony at The Parsonage Hotel.

The ceremony was full of laughter, tears and joy. And so was the wedding breakfast!

During the afternoon there was plenty of time for Joanne and Simon to sneak off in their very own vintage car to have some photographs taken. The country pond at Skipwith was so beautiful and I think you will agree, worth the short drive.

The evening function started with Joanne and Simon's stunning cake from Iced Yorkshire been cut by the new Mr & Mrs Flint followed by a truly romantic first dance as man and wife.

It really was a wonderful day, one I thoroughly enjoyed been part off.

Thank you to Joanne and Simon for having me capture their day and to all their wonderful friends and family for making it such fun!

I always have a wonderful time at Wedding Fairs, especially chatting with lots of other professionals within the business. My lovely neighbour on Sunday was Elaine from Bessie's Yorkshire Preserves.

I loved her mini jars of preserves for wedding favours and hearing about her own little empire.

What a wonderful idea and something a little different for your day!

A fairytale wedding for Charlotte & Darren at the Hospitium, York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/2/a-fairytale-wedding-for-charlotte-darren-at-the-hospitium-york wedding-venue-hospitium-museum-gardensThe Hospitium, YorkWedding Venue

On 26th August 2016 the very lovely Charlotte and Darren tied the knot at St Olaves Church York, followed by a celebration wedding breakfast and evening reception at The Hospitium.

Her close friend Louise, whose wedding I was due to photograph later that year, recommended me to Charlotte. And I am so pleased she passed my name along because Charlotte, Darren, their two children, friends and family were all such fun to be around!

mens-suits-wedding-blueTM Lewin, York

The day started early at the Judges Lodgings, York where both the bride and groom were getting ready. Downstairs Darren and his Bestman were getting dressed into their gorgeous suits from TM Lewin which the boys were happy to purchase as the shop was so helpful, especially the manager.

Meanwhile, upstairs the ladies were busying themselves with hair and make-up, whilst the dress hung beautifully waiting for it's bride.

beautiful-wedding-dressBridal Rogue GallerySwinegate, York

Charlotte's gown was from Bridal Rogue Gallery, Swinegate Court, York. Katriona and Tracey gave the best service.
Charlotte said, "they were so helpful and encouraging and I will really miss popping into see them"

Charlotte's wedding hair was created by Michael Andrew and styled by Alison from his studio. Alison also styled the young bridesmaids and they all looked fabulous.

wedding-bouquet-bridal-pastelsFiona Hogg Floral DesignYork

Charlotte loves flowers, they were so important to her. Apparently all the flowers the bride wanted were out of season, but Fiona, from Fiona Hogg Flora Design sourced them for her. "Fiona's eye for detail was amazing and her design was so fitting, that I trusted her implicitly".

horse-carridge-wedding-transport

For Charlotte, there was only one way to travel on her fairytale wedding day, in a horse and carriage with her father in his dress uniform, beside her.

father-of-the-bride-uniformJudges Lodgings, York

Inside St Olaves Church the wedding ceremony was beautiful, with lots of laughter and joy.

And then, just before the end of the ceremony, Darren and Charlotte had their two children christened.
Archie and Poppy were so well behaved. It was a lovely way to end Charlotte and Darren's wedding ceremony!

After the ceremony it was a short trip down to the Hospitium.
While Charlotte, Darren and Archie travelled in style, the rest of their guests, including Poppy had a pleasant walk through the Museum gardens.

The Hospitium looked amazing, both inside and out. It is a fabulous building in a beautiful location.

Wedding-venue-hospitium-roomInside the Hospitium

Marbeca Bakery made a beautiful cake and Fiona Hogg Flora Designs made some lovely center pieces.

It was all just as Charlotte and Darren wanted.
The weather was stunning, just right for a summer wedding.

The Museum gardens made such a lovely backdrop.
The evening was warm and pleasant and once the gardens were closed, we had the place to ourselves.
That in itself was something special, I don't think I have ever been in the gardens when it was so quiet and so romantic.
It was a peaceful and beautiful stroll around St Mary's Abbey and the Yorkshire Museum.

Then it was time for cake and dancing!

Charlotte and Darren had the most fantastic day and wanted to make sure that everyone involved knew that they loved every minute of their wedding.

And as for the photographer, well, Charlotte says

"Jo was absolutely amazing on the day, calming when things got stressful, organised for when 100 guests needed to be rounded up and she was so discreet.
Jo is so friendly, professional and the quality of her work is second to none! We could not be happier with the result of our beautiful photographs".

"We now consider her to be a true friend and she really was central to our day and pivotal in our lovely memories of our wedding".

Winter Weddings - Our thoughts https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/12/Our-thoughts

Nowadays, you can get married on any day of the week and any time of the year!

Increasingly, here at JoanneB Photography, we are getting more and more bookings for weddings 'out of season' if you will.

October through to April are turning into some our busier months and if you are considering having your wedding in the winter then go ahead, embrace it and do not let the chance of rain put you off!

And here's why not;

Colour Schemes

If you like deep rich colours, autumn reds and winter blues then this time of year is for you. The textures and the colours are truly inspirational.

Gorgeous Accessories

A beautiful winter stole, cape or wrap can really add to any wedding dress. Shawls or bolero cardigans can also look a treat on your bridesmaids and flower girls.

The Ground

Consider where you are getting married and just what WILL be underfoot!

As soon as you leave the house, walk to the church or step outside the venue your dress will no longer be clean. Our advice, accept it and go with it. The more you do, the more fun a day you will have.

Wellington Boots!

If you have some, bring them, if they are in your colour scheme, even better.

As a bride, you will be a lot happier outside with wellies on, than in your stilettos. Keep those clean and dry for indoors and the wellingtons for outside. If it is particularly damp underfoot, the groom might even consider having a spare pair of shoes to hand (or foot).

Umbrellas

Use and abuse them, we say! Get them to match your colours, get them in funny shapes and if you don't get them, don't worry, we have plenty! Small black ones, golf ones, big white ones, blue, yellow and red ones all in the boot of the car and ready to go.

First Look

Something which our wedding colleagues in the USA have been doing for some time. Not traditional, but if you are having a late winters day ceremony, then maybe while the light is still good, you could steal a quick look at each other in private and do a few portraits before the sky turns black and the start of your wedding ceremony.

And what if it rains?

Well, we go inside, of course.

A good Photographer will find beauty indoors as well as out. In front of a window, on a staircase, or in the church, there is always somewhere romantic to do your Bride and Groom portraits.

Group photographs inside, also look fabulous. Just choose a venue with plenty of rooms and we'll find one that will work for you.

Even if it does rain, you could still do a confetti throw (venue permitting, of course).

And the best thing of all are the.......

Dark Nights

Which create so many different and exciting possibilities, silhouettes in doorways, sparkler exits, romantic cuddles and some amazing views of your venue all lit up in the background.

So, if you are thinking about having your wedding when it may be a little colder or darker or wetter, then go right ahead!

Just be prepared and you will still get a most magical wedding with photographs to match.

Outdoor summer wedding at the York Marriott Hotel https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/11/outdoor-summer-wedding-at-the-york-marriott-hotel On a overcast Sunday in July, Tom and Angela were ready to tie the knot at the York Marriott and weather permitting it was going to be a splendid outdoor affair.

I distinctly remember the look on Tom and Angela's face when I first met them at the Racecourse Wedding Fair some months earlier. Like rabbits in the headlights springs to mind. Things certainly have changed as to what is possible on your wedding day. We spoke briefly about their wants for their day and I can tell you now, they did not want a magician, a sweetie cart or flame throwing acrobats on unicycles (I am yet to see the last one myself, but Im looking forward to photographing it in the future).

For Angela and Tom their vision was a lot simpler, classic, more beautiful. Weather permitting they wanted an outdoor ceremony, followed by a BBQ and then indoors for the evening reception. And luckily thats exactly what they got!

The sun eventually broke through, the ceremony took place outside as planned and it was truly a gorgeous day just as Tom and Angela wanted.

Karen and Gary's Day at Middletons, York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/10/karen-and-garys-day-at-middletons-york It's been a busy few months here at JoanneB Photography and only now, have I the time to start sharing some of the lovely weddings that I've captured in the during the summer months.

There has been plenty of tears of joy, delicious cake, lovely dresses, flowers and, I am pleased to say, not too much rain!

First up, one of my favourite and most colourful weddings from back in June.

Karen and Gary, Middletons Hotel, York.

From the first time I met Karen and Gary, I just knew we were a perfect match. They were relaxed about their wedding and just wanted it to be a fun packed day for all their friends and family!

The Sawmill was beautifully decorated by C and P Event Management, the green sashes complimenting the orange accents.

The cupcake tower with the simply decorated cake on top looked lovely. Swirly Sweets always do an awesome job!

The flowers from Heaven Scent were bright and bold.

The ladies all got ready together and Natalie Willingham made sure they all looked their very best!

The Sunroom at Middletons looked fabulous, ready for their intimate wedding ceremony.

Gary and his Bestman, Nigel looked very dapper in their suits from Slaters Menswear and Formal Hire.

After the ceremony we took advantage of the Middletons gardens and the sunshine to do some formal groups.

As well as some gorgeous portraits of the new Mr and Mrs Hodges.

Karen looked stunning in her gown from Because I Love You, Farnsworth, Bolton.

It was by Ronald Joyce and was lace over an organza dress with capped sleeves and a stunning open back, finished with a satin waistband and belt appliqué.

Now, do you remember I said that Karen and Gary wanted a fun packed day? Well they certainly did and a fun packed evening too!

Darren Robinson provided some magic with his close up tricks and Shawn from Cartoon Magic did some hilarious caricatures of the guests as well as the bride and groom.

At the evening function Club Class Entertainment provided the roulette table, the guests enjoyed the face mats that Karen and Gary provided and the appearance of Peter Kay was probably one of the funniest things I have photographed at a wedding so far!

For me, it was a wonderful wedding, I honestly can say I felt like part of the family by the end of the day. Everyone was warm and welcoming, it really wasn't like work at all!

A beautiful gift presented to me by Karen and Gary was so thoughtful and then to be booked by Karen's daughter for her special day next year at Pekforton Castle was the icing on the wedding cake!

Congratulations again Mr & Mrs Hodges X

Wedding Fair at The Monkbar Hotel, York https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/9/wedding-fair-at-the-monkbar-hotel-york On Sunday, the newly refurbished and extended MonkBar Hotel, opened it's doors to welcome in plenty of Bride and Grooms-to-be to their annual wedding fair.

MonkBar HotelWedding Fair

The MonkBar Hotel, York was looking splendid in the late burst of September sunshine. The newly decorated lounge area has to be one of my favourite looking places currently in York. I think any hotel guest would enjoy relaxing and having a cheeky G and T in one of its new sumptuous leather chairs!

Reflections Hair DesignBridal Hair, York

On the stand next to me was Paula, from Reflections Hair Design. She was very popular and very busy giving advice to many brides. She even made the time to do some make-up and some hair 'ups'.

Perfectly CoveredChair covers, Keighley

The chairs were gorgeous with their blue sashes. Perfectly Covered made sure that the room and the catwalk area was looking splendid.

Now, I am led to believe, from those in the know, that Harris Tweed is the next big thing for grooms. Edinburgh Woollen Mill had plenty of styles on display.

The lovely Mark Gilroy, entertained the visitors in the outside courtyard. His vocals and keys were on point and he sounded as lovely as ever! I worked a very wet wedding with Mark last year and his amazing vocals kept every happy, including me.

The stand from Wedding Belles & Beaus looked stunning! Ella was on hand to give advice about bridal wear and having just returned from a Bridal dress show abroad, she was definitely in the know about next seasons must have dresses.

Propose to invite had plenty of options for your stationery. I loved the fact that there display invites are all for Rachel and Ross!

It was lovely to see David from Jaydee Media. It's a while since our paths have crossed, having worked a wedding with him last year. His work is stunning and, I can say from personal experience that he is a true professional at a wedding!

Its always a pleasure to see Smooch wedding rings at any wedding fair. I love the idea that they bring the wedding rings to you!

Anne from Silk Floral Art was jetting off on holiday but had left her gorgeous stand in someone else's careful hands. I am lucky enough to have one of Anne's displays in my house. It was a gift from a bride after I photographed her wedding. It still looks stunning today, two years later, but then I guess thats the point of silk flowers!

And then of course there was me!

I had a fabulous day, spoke to lots of lovely bride and grooms-to-be as well as seeing lots of old friends from the Wedding industry.

We were all looked after with bacon sandwiches and tea from the Monkbar Hotel and there was even a pastry or two.

It really was a great event and I for one hope to be back at the Monkbar Hotel again soon.

Love, laughter and daffodils at The Merchant Adventurers Hall https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/6/love-laughter-and-daffodils-at-the-merchant-adventurers-hall

At the beginning of June, I had the amazing pleasure of capturing Lucy and Andrew's special day in York.

It was such a fabulous wedding!

The ladies all got ready together. The atmosphere was lovely, one of pure joy and love.Paula Smith from Reflections Hair Design made sure Lucy's hair looked stunning. The bridesmaids looked lovely in their dresses from Coast and the bride looked gorgeous in her Veromia dress which she won. Yes, won! She entered Wedding Ideas magazine's golden ticket competition and won her dress!

The flowers were beautiful and very special.

Within each of the bouquets was a piece of jewellery from female members of the family, some of whom are no longer with us. In the brides bouquet was a broach from her Grandmother. Katherine from, Fleur Adamo did a lovely job integrating not only the jewellery, but some of the knitted daffodils as well (more about those later).

Andrew in his Jaeger suit looked very dapper and so did his groomsmen and ushers who all did a terrific job on the day of keeping things on track!

The wedding took place at the stunning Merchant Adventurers Hall.

Andrew and Lucy now live in Manchester, but met a few years ago in York whilst they were at University and fell in love.

To them, York was the only place to get married!

So many of the little touches on the day meant so much to the bride and groom.  The cake was made by one of the bridesmaids, there were candles lit, to special relatives who were no longer with them, the invites had been drawn by Bethan, Lucy's Neice and everyone (or so it appeared) had been knitting furiously to create the hundreds of beautiful daffodils which were everywhere!

Those special, personal touches, really made this a wedding with heart!

Confetti is unfortunately not allowed in such a historic venue, so we went to plan B.

BUBBLES!

The food was served by Croft Catering, a truly sumptuous selection of vegetarian options and I have to say the dessert of sticky toffee pudding was totally out of this world!

Phil Lyons and his New Vintage Band were fabulous, they did a brilliant job. After the first dance, they really did manage to get the whole place jumping!

All in all it was a wonderful day and I was so honoured to be Lucy and Andrew's Photographer!

A beautiful day for a wedding at Aldwark Manor https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/5/a-beautiful-day-for-a-wedding-at-aldwark-manor

On the 30th of April, I had the amazing pleasure of photographing a very special wedding. Katherine and Robin were ready to say 'I do' in front of their friends and family.

The dress was amazing, as soon as I saw it, I just knew it was made for Katherine. A Mori Lee design, with delicately embroidered lace, a deep V back and  illusion neckline guaranteed that Katherine was going to look gorgeous in a timeless and chic dress. The Bridal Factory Outlet, Northallerton  certainly ensured that the bride looked traditional yet modern.

After the girls returned from having their hair done at Revive Hair design, York it was on with the Make-up and out with the Prosecco!

Whilst the bridesmaids took care of each, Jodie Naylor from Make up by Jodie made sure the bride was nothing short of stunning.

And then it was time for the dresses.............

Meanwhile, over at the Church in Aldwark, Robin and his best man were waiting for the ladies to arrive.

All the gents looked very dapper in their suits from Debenhams Formal Hire.

The Ceremony at St Stephens church was small and intimate.

The newley married Mr & Mrs Lavin were then driven by Ross from Potter Chauffeurs round to Aldwark Manor Golf & Spa Hotel.

The room looked fabulous with plenty of little touches! The cake by Love Rouge Bakery was stunning in it's simplicity.

The button holes and bouquets by The Flower Shop, Easingworld were beautiful. A handtie bouquet containing Avalanche Roses with a skirt of Aspidistra leaves, the stems were bound with greenery which was secured with pearl headed pins.  The bridesmaids wearing Aqua dresses carried a classic elegant white Calla Lily handtie with stems simply bound with green Aspidistra leaves.

After the formals, Robin, Katherine and I took a short walk around the grounds of Aldwark Manor's grounds.

Then it was back inside for the Wedding Breakfast.

And some very funny speeches!

Stunning, simply stunning!

It was a truly amazing day, the weather was glorious, the guest were on top form ensuring that everyone had fun, the venue was made for Robin and Katherine and Robin and Katherine were made for each other.

Thank you to all your friends and family that made my job so easy on the day.

Wishing you both the very best of everything in your future together!

Opening time at The Alexandra, Harrogate https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/4/opening-time-at-the-alexandra-harrogate

On Monday night a select few were invited to the VIP re-opening at The Alexandra Pub, Harrogate.

Re-branded to a new  Nicholson's pub it will offer the very best of British Pub Food.

And a great range of drinks including quality real ales and gins.

Every inch of the new interior looks simply stunning after the refurbishment!

As a taster, the guests were offered a glass of Proseco, various hand pulled ales as well as Warner Edwards Rhubarb Gin.

As well as some miniature items from the menu including fish battered in Nicholson's very own ale and served with their triple cooked chips.

The entertainment was in keeping with The Alexandra's history from the second world war when it was requisitioned by the Ministry of Defence to house RAF Pilots serving the near by Air Ministry.

Claire Louise looked the part and sounded amazing with her WW2 tribute list including Vera Lynn to The Andrews Sisters.

The atmosphere was great, both staff and guests enjoying all The Alexandra has to offer.

The memorabilia, artefacts and images on display all around the pub contain many historical facts about the pub, Harrogate and the surrounding area.

This one, took me back to my own RAF days!

It was a real pleasure capturing the event for Nicholson's and to be honest I can't wait to go back to The Alexandra and try those triple cooked chips and hand battered cod the next time I am in Harrogate!

So, despite the damp weather, Noodles brought Karen and Gary to York for their Pre-Wedding Shoot.

We had a lovely walk down by the river in York.

Unfortunately, Noodles can't join Karen and Gary for their wedding at the Middleton's Hotel in York in June, but I am sure he will be there in mind, if not in his cute Labradoodle body.

Commercial Photographer captures the essence of The Victoria Hotel Leeds https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/3/commercial-photographer-captures-the-essence-of-the-victoria-hotel-leeds

As a Commercial Photographer, I occasionally get to photograph someone or something that makes me creatively excited.

Photographing the Victoria Family and Commercial Hotel in Leeds was one of those occasions!

A building steeped in history and with such a rich tapestry of materials, it was a Photographers dream.

Built in 1865 opposite the Leeds Town Hall to help with accommodating people coming into the city for the Yorkshire Assizes Court.

The sign which now ordains the outside of the Hotel, was found by workmen in the 1980's and is original victoriana dating back to the 1890's. It was found under boards in it's original position and sent for restoration.

Recently the bar area has had new lighting installed, the chandeliers adding to the whole atmosphere of the main lounge.

Inside the architecture and woodwork is splendid. A joy to capture.

The detailing in the bar is stunning. The lions head in the woodwork.

And the elephant trunks along the bar hold the brass handrail firmly in place.

The styling of the Victoria is enchanting and in keeping with what you'd expect from a public house from 1865.

The venue is dressed so well, everywhere you look there is something else adding to it's character.

It is tactile, warm and welcoming. A true gem!

The recent refurbishment of the washrooms have even paid homage to the history of the hotel, with the wallpaper depicting merriment in the Victorian era.

A year in pictures. My look back at 2015 https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2016/1/a-year-in-pictures-my-look-back-at-2015

I can't believe we are already nearly one month into 2016! Where does the time go?

Looking back over 2015 has made me feel proud and somewhat sentimental towards all the couples who have allowed me to share in their special moments. I feel so honoured to be present at so many great times in the lives of others and to be able to capture those moments for them to treasure forever, is truly a special gift.

I have photographed at some beautiful venues, in and around York, in sunshine and in rain and loved every single time I pressed and released the shutter on my camera, capturing that moment in time, forever!

I am so blessed and lucky in my work, I get to do something that I love and that others will enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Thank you and all the best for 2016!

Wendy and Cem tie the knot, AGAIN at The Middletons https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/11/wendy-and-cem-tie-the-knot-again-at-the-middletons

In September I had the greatest pleasure to capture a very special event!

The scene was set at the Middletons Hotel, York and C & P Event Management made the place look amazing!

And so did Wendy, the bride to be, again,  with all her finishing touches and personal input to the decor.

And unlike the rest of us brides, Wendy was lucky and got to wear her beautiful gown for the second time!

You see Wendy and Cem first met in Turkey way back in 2012 and were married in Adana, Cem's home town, on the same date exactly one year ago.

So, it was time to celebrate again, this time in England with all of Wendy's close friends and family.

The ceremony was short and sweet, with Wendy's father walking her down the aisle and giving her away.

And Wendy's closest friends were able to be her Bridesmaids.

The Wedding Breakfast was delicious, I did get invited to sit with everyone and enjoy the meal thoroughly (perk of the job). During the meal, the guests were wowed by a magician. The amazing Mark Waddington entertained  all the friends and family.

His charm, wit and slight of hand magic was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone!

Lauren, Wendy's Chief Bridesmaid made the gorgeous wedding cake and her fiancé, Alister, did his bit as Bestman keeping Cem in check.

Wendy and Cem's love story conquered all; many months apart from each other over the years, many plane journeys and lots of long distance phone calls and emails. Not forgetting a wedding in Turkey where few of Wendy's family and friends got to attend and then a blessing, a year later,  in England which none of Cem's family and friends could attend.

But none of that mattered, they made it! Their long distance romance was complete.

And it was a joy to capture it for them!

Thank you Wendy and Cem for picking me.

X

Brand Yorkshire Conference 2015 https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/10/brand-yorkshire-conference-2015

Following on from the success of their 2014 event, Brand Yorkshire was back at the Pavilions yesterday.

And what an amazing day it was!

I was lucky to be amongst the 90 or so other exhibitors, promoting their companies and networking with the 1000+ visitors. There were 10 keynote speakers giving some valuable tips on business, sharing their stories and great words of wisdom about being successful.

I had the pleasure to talk with many of the visitors as well as some of the other exhibitors. I found it to be a very valuable networking experience for my company.

There were numerous companies with every conceivable service and product on display. Many of the stands were very busy. Go print 3D generated plenty of interests as did many of the other stands, although Turner Lister & Co with the help of some ice cream provided by Cakes d'Licious had the most by far!

As I wandered amongst the visitors and exhibitors, I was impressed with the friendliness of the whole event and the willingness to share ideas. I learned so much and found the whole experience very informative.

I even had the opportunity to sit in one one of the keynote speaker sessions with the amazing John Ranby from Bee Social Marketing.

The event was an amazing success organised again by Richard Norman, the founder of Brand Yorkshire and his team.

And I know he is already thinking about 2016 and how to make it even bigger and better!

Wedding Showcase at Middletons Hotel https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/10/wedding-showcase-at-middletons-hotel

Yesterday I had the greatest pleasure in exhibiting at the Middletons in York. It was time for their Wedding Showcase.

A lovely event which is always a joy to attend!

Small and intimate, just like the hotel.

It was so nice to see all the gorgeous couples who came to have a look round, many of whom had already booked the Middletons for their special day.

It was also nice to see many of my friends and colleagues from the wedding industry who all pride themselves on providing fabulous products and great customer service.

C & P Event Management did a gorgeous job inside styling the Sawmill and the Organ Factory.

And Limelight Wedding Cars new edition, a stunning Beauford, made the outside look pretty spectacular too!

Silk Floral Arts stand looked as colourful and bright as ever.

And, as always, it was a pleasure to see Swirly sweet cakes. Their cakes always look amazing and I must admit, taste amazing too! I might have sneaked a small slice to go with my afternoon cuppa.

The Blueberry Home displayed some beautiful home accessories. They also had some gorgeous gifts on show and even offer to help with your Wedding List.

All Things Hair provided some glamour to the event and some sparkle.

Lots of SPARKLE! I did notice many of the brides to be trying on many hair accessories and enjoying the advice and help on offer.

If you were looking for some help with your bridesmaid dresses, Hannah was on hand from Joys Bella Bridesmaid.

The sunroom looked and smelled gorgeous because of all the pretty flowers Heaven Scent had on display.

Then there was the hotel itself. It looked beautiful and ready for any number of weddings of various sizes and colours. You could really get a feel of what this little gem has to offer.  The staff were all as warm and as welcoming as ever! Wedding & Events Coordinator, Emma was there chatting to everyone who needed her and Harriet was welcoming all the visitors with fudge made in the Middletons Hotel very own kitchen.

And, of course there was me. I had the opportunity to chat to many brides and grooms, some I already knew and am looking forward to photographing their weddings next year and some I didn't know but we exchanged details and hopefully I will see them again soon to discuss their wedding day!

Having only just photographed a wedding at  Middletons last week, it was a real pleasure to find myself there again so soon. It is always nice to work with a venue that invests as much in their weddings as I do and where I am made to feel so welcome!

The Middletons still has some availability for weddings next summer and I would recommend giving Emma a call if you are looking for a fabulous wedding venue.

And as for me, I  still have a few dates left for next year and am already taking enquiries for 2017, so if you want to have a chat about your photography and want pictures like this in your album, then get in touch!

York Food & Drink Festival in Pictures! https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/9/york-food-drink-festival-in-pictures

After 18 years, York Food and Drink Festival returns to celebrate Yorkshire food & Drink once more.

And I thought it was time I captured this fabulous event with my camera, which is quite appropriate as this years theme is 'food in words and pictures'. The festival will be holding photography and art competitions, film showings, a festival cookery book an 'edible' hat and more.

For 10 days this month the festival takes over York City centre again; with it's food market, champagne bar & music and as I wandered around with my camera, the atmosphere was friendly and warm and the sun had even made an early autumn appearance.

It was bright and colourful and the smells were truly delicious.

The demo tent was already in full swing and the Cookery School tent was all set up and ready to teach anyone who wanted to have a go!

As you can see the variety of vendors is nothing short of amazing, from Smokin Blues Smokehouse & BBQ street food through to the fresh breads from Haxby bakery and sweet treats at Forever Fudge.

York Brewery were there with plenty of beer to sample, including their new beer 'Mostly Ghostly' which is dark and hot thanks to the collaboration with The Chilli Jam Man!

Obviously, I tried a few things on my way round (it would've been rude not too) and I can fully recommend the Quiche from Farmhouse Direct!

The Shambles Kitchen were cooking up a storm with their Burritos.

And so were the York Roast Company where I was treated to a hot Pork sandwich with all the trimmings, including apple sauce, stuffing and crackling on the side.

Can I just say, that I didn't eat all these things in one sitting or on one day for that matter!

I chatted with many of the vendors and visitors and everyone had nothing but praise for the event and York.

York Cookery School were in full swing teaching some willing individuals how to make shortbread. I stopped by and said hello and while I was there we discussed the very important matter of who was going to win this year's Great British Bake Off.

There were cakes, brownies, breads, pastries and fudge at every turn, meats, chocolate, churros, fresh lemonade, crepes and so much more. The market was so well stocked with all manner of food and drink, that you could easily spend all day enjoying it!

On day two of the event, my husband, daughter and I took part in the Taste Trail and I cannot recommend it highly enough. For a nominal fee (£5.00 for one or 2 for £8.00) you get a city wide trail visiting many of York's independent food retailers.

This however, is not for the faint hearted or those with a full tummy! We spent a fews hours sampling some of the delights on the trail, but eventually had to admit defeat. There were just too many delicious things to try with too little time and too small a tummy to complete them all.

At Rafi's Spice Box on Goodramgate where we tried a taster off Ma' Paretal, which was yummy.

At Cafe No 8 we had a sample of soup, which was fresh and tasty.

At Brew and Brownie, we had a taster of a chocolate brownie of course. Now, when I say we, what I should say is our daughter had two tasters and my husband and I shared just one. And it was a brownie like no other, squishy, chololatey and gooey all at once! I will definitely go back!

The dark chocolate buttons in York Cocoa House are just how I like my chocolate, sweet and dark with a bit of crunch on top.

And the Carrot Cake chocolate in Hotel Chocolat was sweet and chewy and tasted just like Carrot Cake.

Then we went to LICC. Which is an amazing little ice cream shop, which I already love. My baby Licc was Coffee meringue flavour and was so nice that I know I will return for a tub of that very soon.

Then finally we finished off our trail with a homemade scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam in the Flax and Twine on the Shambles. A gorgeous vintage style coffee shop, with quirky touches and delightful items to buy as well as a gorgeous selection of cakes!

The Taste Trail is fantastic and I cannot recommend it highly enough especially if you are from York! I have lived here for most of my life and very rarely do I visit so many of our fine eateries. Go, try somewhere new and then next time you are in the city and in need of refreshment, instead of heading to your usual coffee shop or sandwich place, go back and support one of the independent shops that will appreciate your support!

And as for all those places on the trail, we didn't get to like El Piano, 31 Castlegate, Walmgate Ale House or Demijohn, I intend to try again to tick you off my book before the festival ends!

Lisa and Neil tie the knot at The Parsonage https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/7/lisa-and-neil-tie-the-knot-at-the-parsonage

It is always something special when, on a wedding day, it is not just about two people becoming 'Mr & Mrs' but it's also about bringing together two families, especially with this gorgeous couple who have had their share of tears and hard times along the way.

On one side there was Lisa and her three fabulous children. Lisa, an inspiration to us all, has recently lost over 8 stone.

And on the other side, there was Neil and his son Ben who had been widowed some years earlier, when Neil's first wife tragically died.

So this day was super special, taking two little separate families and bringing them together to become one big, happy family!

It was a gorgeous sunny day in June when Lisa and Neil tied the Knot at The Parsonage Hotel, York.

Whilst Lisa got ready with her daughter upstairs, Neil and (his father in law to be) Bill got to grips with those pesky cravats in the lounge. The boys all looked very dapper in their wedding suits from York Hire Wear.

And, the bride looked simply amazing!

Lisa wore her dream dress from Cinderellas of Skipton. The "Tobago" dress was A line with lace and tulle and was modified to add the gorgeous sleeves to give the dress the finishing touches that Lisa wanted.

The ceremony was very emotional, the room was filled with plenty of love and laughter, especially when the wedding ring refused to go onto Neil's hand!

After the ceremony, I got to spend some time with Lisa and Neil in the fabulous grounds of The Parsonage Hotel. Capturing some very special portraits of the new Mr & Mrs Pallister. The hotel has so many stunning locations both inside and out, we were really spoilt for choice!

And as the sun began to set, I took Lisa and Neil outside to capture one last image taking full advantage of the surroundings in the beautiful early evening light. It was a truly wonderful day!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Pallister

Easter Sunday Wedding at Swinton Park Manor https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/6/easter-sunday-wedding-at-swinton-park-manor So, while you were all in your P.J's eating your bodyweight in Easter eggs, I was doing something a little bit more special.

I was very honoured to be photographing Damian and Lizzy's amazingly beautiful Wedding. Having met this lovely couple a year earlier at a Wedding Fair, we had spent time together and, dare I say, become friends. I just knew their day was going to be a pleasure to work and the images would be truly stunning!

Whilst the ladies got ready at the house, the boys were all together at the Parsonage Hotel, York.

Lizzy looked stunning in her in her A-line, slipper satin dress by Enzonia.

We all  loved the fact that it even had little pockets in the front. A true homage to an 'Audrey Hepburn' inspired ballgown.

The ceremony took place at the Bar Convent Chapel. It was a beautiful ceremony, made even more special by the facts that it was Easter Sunday and the chapel is shared with All Saints School, where Lizzy is a teacher.

The weather could not have been better. When we arrived at the hotel the sun was shinning, so much so, that the chauffeur packed away the roof of the car so the bride and groom could make a grand entrance up the sweeping driveway to their awaiting guests.

The weather was glorious for the whole day and we took full advantage of it within the beautiful grounds of Swinton Park.

The setting was beautiful both inside and out.

The day was truly stunning and it was followed by an awesome evening of live music and dancing!

The day was truly amazing, with many beautiful surprises for Lizzy organised by her fabulous husband, including a bracelet from Tiffany, a firework show and a wonderful honeymoon which began in Dubai and ended in Mauritius.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Marsden, may your life together be filled with joy, love and plenty more gifts!

A walk in the park. Nikki & Joe's Pre-Wedding shoot https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/4/a-walk-in-the-park-nikki-joes-pre-wedding-shoot

With Nikki and Joe's wedding coming up fast, we thought it was about time to go out and have a bit of fun with the camera, without the pressure of it been their wedding day!

And, that's what my complimentary Pre-Wedding Shoot is all about! Having some fun and getting used to each other before they say 'I DO'

We met at another great park in York, the Homestead and just had a walk around in the late spring sunshine.

I could tell Nikki and Joe were really nervous to begin with but by the time we had finished, they were both smiling and laughing. Nikki even went away skipping!

Thank you guys for choosing me and I can't wait to capture all your memories for you at the Parsonage Hotel, York in June.

A day Training with Chris Chambers Photography https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/3/TrainingwithChrisChambers

A few weeks ago, I had the amazing good fortune to join a training day with the award winning photographer Chris Chambers at the gorgeous Hazlewood Castle Hotel, near York.

As some of you may know, I trained to be a Professional Photographer with the Royal Air Force (many moons ago) and I have to say, when it comes to training their staff, they were second to none! You were seen as an investment who needed to be fully skilled at your job to ensure that when the time comes, under pressure, you can still deliver.

And, having trained with the best, any course I now attend (and pay for) has a lot to live up to!

Chris Chambers Training Day, did not disappoint.

When you work alone and have done photography for as long as I have, sometimes you a) forget why you do what you do b) become creatively stuck in your comfort zone and c) go a bit  stir crazy when you work from your own home office with only an aspidistra for company!

So, for me, a good course should;

  • Allow you to network with like minded people
  • Confirm you are doing things correctly
  • Solidify current knowledge
  • Teach you new skills

and

  • Give you the confidence to leave your comfort zone and get creative!

Also, very importantly, it must be full of banter and laughter (which this day was).

And, for me, Chris Chambers nailed it!

I thoroughly enjoyed my day and early evening with Chris, the models and the other delegates.

Thank you Chris for an amazing days training and I can't wait to join you for some more in the future.

As my 2015 wedding season starts to get busy, I can't wait to capture images like these for my bride and grooms.

So, if you want pictures like these in your wedding album, get in touch, QUICK!

I still have a few dates available this summer and with my packages starting from just £950, they are filling up fast.

Cressida and Chris's Autumn Wedding https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/1/cressida-and-chriss-autumn-wedding

When I first met Chris and Cressida, I just knew that their wedding was going to be something special with a little bit of quirk thrown in!

I would certainly call them an original couple with their own values and thoughts on things like marriage and the whole process of 'getting hitched'.

With their joint love of all things 'geek' and the fact that their wedding day was set for Halloween, I was sure it was going to be a fabulous day for everyone involved and I wasn't wrong!

When we did their pre-wedding shoot, I was struck by just how photogenic they both are and how relaxed they were with me in front of the camera. These guys made my job so easy.

And can I just mention how Cressida's colouring and skin tones made my heart sing, I knew she was going to be a very stunning bride!

Chris and Cressida were introduced to each other by Cressida's sister some seven years ago, but then they went their separate ways until four years later when they got back in contact via Facebook (thank you Mark Zuckerberg, again) and found they shared many loves including, cheesy pasta, cold beers and Superhero films!

As Cressida says 'we were a pair of well matched geeks'

And so, on Halloween family and friends gathered to watch Cressida and Chris tie the knot at the Worsley Arms Hotel, Hovingham.

Always be yourself

unless you can be

Batman

Then

Always be Batman!

With her stunning colouring and in an amazing dress from Bridal Reloved, Beverley Cressida did look as beautiful as I thought she would!

A fun ceremony, which commenced with a slight hiccup as Cressida made a big entrance, with a little stumble down the aisle.

The weather was fabulous, apparently the warmest Halloween since records began! And we made the most of it in the Worsley Arms gardens.

Chris and Cressida even brought sparklers all ready for Guy Fawkes Night.

A great day, organised fabulously by an amazing bride and groom and I thank them for letting me share it!

Oh and by the way, did I mention that Cressida is a writer (unlike me, I prefer pictures myself) and if you head over to her website, you'll find some fabulous musings and blog postings on their special day as well as some other topics like cyclists and Christmas. I highly recommend a read with a cup of coffee and a big piece of cake! Especially the ones that document some of her journey to married life!

Chris & Caroline's day at Woodhall Spa Hotel https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/1/chris-carolines-day-at-woodhall-spa-hotel

Well, Happy New Year to you all! So, far mine is going well and I am loving being back at work (no, honest).

I've got loads of great things planned for 2015, including some great training booked with the talented photographer Chris Chambers, which will elevate my photographic and lighting skills even higher!

But first, it's time for a quick look backwards to some of the fabulous weddings I had the joy to take part in at the end of last year.

I first met Caroline and Chris at The Barbican Wedding Fayre back in 2013 and we immediately hit it off. They had just had their photograph taken in one of those Photo Booths and were laughing at the picture. They looked amazing together, fun, happy, good looking and I just knew their wedding was going to be something special!

And then Chris told me he was hoping to arrive at his wedding day in a tractor and not just any tractor, it was going to be a Holland T7 in Maserati Blue (I did go home and Google it). That was it, I just had to photograph their day and luckily for me, they came to the same conclusion.

"We hit it off straight away with Jo, she got what we were about and we just knew there and then that she was the photographer for us'

As I drove up to the Wood Hall Spa Hotel, in October on their wedding day, I was so thrilled to be there.

And true to his word, Chris had indeed managed to arrive in a Holland T7! There had been some doubt for a while as to wether it would fit down the county lanes, but I can happily report that no gate posts were injured on it's journey.

Caroline looked stunning in her gown from Northallerton Bridal Outlet coupled with a string of pearls, which were a family heirloom. The pearls around her bouquet matched beautifully.

This wedding day was something very traditional but with just the right amount of modern mixed in.

Now, for those of you who don't know me, I cry, a lot! I wear my heart on my sleeve and cry at EVERY wedding I photograph. But I have to say, this one will take some beating. When Chris's mum stood to do a reading and started with the words 'I searched the internet for some words of wisdom for my son and his new wife, but in the end I decided to write from my heart', I knew I was in big trouble! But I think I was in good company, because nearly every eye shed a tear for this beautiful couple.

I think you'll agree to just how stunning these two look!

It was a typical October day, but these two were so stoic whilst we captured something special. Bravely they put up with the cold whilst my husband and I struggled to light the sparkler in force 10 gales! (Ok, maybe not force 10, but it was certainly blustery)

But, again, I think you will agree, it was definitely worth it!

Chris and Caroline,

Thank you for allowing me to share in your day and to have had the opportunity to meet with your gorgeous friends and family. It was a true pleasure and an honour and I can't wait to produce an amazing album for you to keep and treasure forever.

Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness.

Your Photographer and friend,

Jo

Vintage Wedding Day at Taitlands https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/9/vintage-wedding-day-at-taitlands

Kathryn and David's day in July was truly special. Taitlands, their venue for the day is small yet beautifully formed inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Taitlands was purchased in 2007 by Emma Milligan who has lovingly restored it back to it's former glory.

The weather, although a little excitable behaved when needed. The little touches of 'Vintage' which Kathryn and Divid had lovingly made, matched the surroundings and ambience of the day. Obviously talented they made so many of the items that made their day what it was.

There were games on the lawn, an amazing wedding breakfast served in the stunning Coach House and Kathryn even provided flip flops for all the ladies for when the dancing commenced.

Kathryn and David's vintage day was a pure joy!

Bryony & Ed Pre-Wedding Shoot https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/9/bryony-ed-pre-wedding-shoot

Bryony & Ed booked me over two years ago, so their pre-wedding shoot was more than just a photography session, it was a proper catch up!

We had some fun earlier in the summer at Rowntrees Park, York. As some of you will know, it is a location I return to time and time again.

Ed and Bryony tie the knot this Saturday at Middletons Hotel, York and I for one can't wait! It promises to be a fabulous day, in an amazing venue with a fun loving couple!

Have a great day guys and thank you for letting me share it with you, Jo x

Charlotte & Chris tie the knot in opulent surroundings! https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/8/charlotte-chris-tie-the-knot-in-opulent-surroundings

I first met Charlotte at a Wedding Fair back in 2013 and I instantly fell in love with her and her wedding plans! A small intimate wedding in the most wonderful surroundings. I seriously wanted to photograph this wedding. I emailed Charlotte straight after the Wedding Fair and again in the December, but heard nothing back. Then in January this year, Charlotte appeared again at my stand at another Fair I was at. I asked her how her and Chris were and how their plans were going for their wedding at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel. I also mentioned the two emails I sent her. "What emails?" she asked.

Oh no, they had disappeared into cyberspace, damn you email...................

Luckily for me, Charlotte was so impressed with the fact that I still remembered her, Chris and all the details she'd shared about her amazing wedding plans, that she went onto book me!

As Charlotte got ready, I had chance to photograph her with Catherine Elizabeth international hair and makeup artist, who worked her magic making the bride look amazing.

Charlotte considered every detail and used fresh flowers for her bouquet and buttonholes. Even Chris's buttonhole had a diamonte in it. The florist made sure they were just perfect.

Meanwhile the men had adjourned to the bar!

As you can see, The Cedar Court Grand really lives up to it's name, Grand!

And then, there was the dress...........

The dress was something else! A beautiful, Royal Satin A-line gown in Ivory.  The beadwork was simple yet stunning and the corseted back ensured that the dress was truly a perfect fit! Charlotte said that she just knew that this was the dress for her as soon as she tried it on at Broughton's Bridals.

Then it was time for the ceremony, small, intimate and special, just the way they should be.

Chris and Charlotte were childhood sweethearts and fourteen years after they first went out, they became husband and wife.

Stunning!

Charlotte and Chris also chose some silk floral arrangements for their table centrepieces and decorations on the chairs. Silk Floral Art did a wonderful job in creating something so contemporary and yet fitting for such traditional surroundings.

Of course, the boys all looked very dapper too!

It rained for most of the day, so we didn't even step foot outside. However, The Cedar Court Grand is all about the interior!

The interior made such an amazing backdrop for the portraits, it's architecture complimenting the Bride and Groom completely.

This amazing building was originally built in 1906 and was the former North Eastern Railway Headquarters.  It is opulent and rich.  You want to touch the soft furnishing and lounge in one of the high backed purple velvet chairs whilst drinking a traditional G & T served in a tall glass with ice and lemon.

The Cedar Court Grand's 5* style luxury pays homage to that golden era of travel.

Charlotte and Chris's style was so in keeping with the Cedar Court Grand meaning that they had a Wedding day that could not have failed to be stunning!

As they head off on their honeymoon to Egypt, I wish them all the best in their married life together and thank them from the bottom of my heart for letting me be part of something so special!

Kathryn & David in the Museum Gardens https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/7/kathryn-david-in-the-museum-gardens

This is Kathryn and David, lucky in love, but not in finding a Wedding Photographer!

I am number 4 and here's what happened to the first 3 (don't worry, I'm not going round bumping off the competition)

  1. accepted their booking, only to discover she had booked the wrong date and was not available for their actual date
  2. got pregnant (congratulations) and was due to have her baby the same month of their wedding
  3. found on the internet, no contract, no deposit and just felt a bit wrong!

So, here I am, their lucky number 4!

Although, do you know what, I think I am the lucky one.

Sometimes you just gel with your clients and I love these guys.

We met for their Pre-Wedding shoot in York and had a good chat first. Their day sounds amazing! They are getting married at Taitlands. A unique Wedding Venue in the Yorkshire Dales, near Settle. I just know it's going to be so beautiful! Kathryn is a Seamstress by trade and has made her own dress (what a skill) and from the sounds of it, the whole event is going to be lovely and have that 'vintage' feel to it.

And, I can't wait!

These pictures were taken in the Museum Gardens, York.

Amanda and Paul's, Handmade Vintage Wedding https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/7/amanda-paul-handmade-vintage-wedding There's nothing like a Wedding, where the Bride and Groom make such an effort to get all the details just as they want them.

Paul, Amanda and the rest of the family made sure that every last detail was thought about and invested in, making this wedding day truly special.

And one that a bit of rain, was not going to spoil!

From the moment we arrived, I just knew that is was going to be amazing!

I love floating around when all the girls are getting ready. The stories you hear, the laughs they have and the loving moments I witness are so precious and special to capture.

Amanda looked stunning in her Vintage Dress and Katy, from Long locks Hair, styled her hair into a beautiful vintage clip.

Amanda's Dad was overcome when he saw just how beautiful she looked!

Meanwhile at the venue, the guests had arrived and Paul was nervously waiting for his bride to be.

This was a true 'vintage' do it yourself day. Amanda & paul made all the stationery, Auntie Dorothea and Uncle Alan made most of the handmade decorations. Amanda made meters of bunting, too.

The barn at High House Farm Brewery, is beautiful, even in the rain. Apparently, Paul having heard that you could get married in the brewery headed there the very next day to check it out! They loved it for the relaxed atmosphere, it's location and the beer. During his speech Paul did say that all his dreams had come true, getting married in a brewery!

There wasn't a dry pair of eyes (or feet) in the place.

Including mine on both counts!

     Congratulations Mr and Mrs Noble.

Even with a few spots of rain the barn is a fantastic venue for a Wedding! Plenty of shelter to get all the group shots............

As well as the portraits of the Bride and Groom.

Amanda, was a trooper, just accepting the weather and even embracing it!

Purple umbrella's and Converse stripy wellies, I love a prepared Bride.

Nothing was going to stop Amanda and Paul getting the shots they wanted.

Especially the one featuring the barn at its full height!

The Wedding was beautifully 'retro'. The  Wedding Breakfast, was a gorgeous styled 'vintage' afternoon tea, with Victoria Sponge and Scones. Amanda & Marina spent ages sourcing the tea cups and saucers for decorations, no car boot sale or charity shop was safe. They looked amazing on the tables once Amanda's Mum and Dad had planted them with beautiful flowers.

The cake paid homage to their other love, their VW camper van.

Then, it was time for Amanda's final shoe change.

Purple Converse so she could dance the night away!

And rather than have a DJ, Paul and Amanda opted for something a little bit different, a Jukebox filled with all their favourite music.

And just in case you are wondering if the sun made an appearance. It did, at 8pm!

Lou & Di tie the knot! https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/7/lou-di-tie-the-knot

Saturday 12th July and it's Lou and Di's big day!

Friends and family gathered outside, including Lou's brother Nigel. He had travelled from Canada  with his family to watch his sister get married.

'Percy' the car, brought them in style, but unfortunately he was taken ill later that day. We all wish him a speedy recovery, but at his age it could be a long road to recovery!

After the ceremony it was into the Registry Office gardens for a few family groups, before the family set off on the short walk down Bootham, through the Museum Gardens and onto the Wedding meal.

Lou and Di had booked a large table for their afternoon celebrations at Jamie's, Lendal, York.

Jamie's is my kind of place. I love the little touches that are there and the foods pretty good too! Lou & Di enjoyed their meal, even if "there was way to much food".

In the evening the ladies had a great big party for their friends as well as family. Martin Waring, Magician, kept everyone entertained until it was time for the dancing to begin. Yorks Sports Club, was a great venue for such a fab party!

Di even played with her band the Ukulele Sunshine Revival! There was not a still foot in the place.

The delicious buffet and this amazing cheese Wedding Cake was supplied by Fryton Catering

A fantastic day and night was had by all!

Congratulations again, Lou & Di and thank you for letting me share your day!

We want to ride our bicycles https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/7/i-want-to-ride-my-bicycle

Chris and Liz love their bikes and anything really to do with biking. They go mountain biking often and even compete. So, the original plan for their complimentary Pre-Wedding shoot, was to meet at Dalby Forest to capture some great images of them doing the activity they both love and share. The plan was to meet early and get some 'nice' shots before they headed off on the mountain bike trails where I would capture some 'action' shots. The first two dates we arranged, the weather was to say the least, wet. Then the third date had to be postponed because Chris had injured his back.

So, much to everyones disappointment we had to reschedule and as the Wedding Day is approaching, we went for something with a little less 'action' but still featuring their beloved bikes!

Rowntrees Park, again. I can't help it. I love it there.

Liz and Chris chose the centre image below for their framed signing board and I can see why. Subtle, yet says it all!

Their Wedding is approaching fast and I can't wait to capture the day for them.  I just know it's going to be a beautiful day!

Charlotte and Chris at Rowntrees Park https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/7/charlotte-and-chris-at-rowntrees-park

I love doing Pre-Wedding shoots, it's a great way to touch base with my couples before their Wedding Day!

I met Chris and Charlotte at Rowntrees Park. It's a great location for a photoshoot.

When we started the shoot, they were both nervous, understandable really.  It is not often you get followed by a women with a camera when you're in the park, right?  The pictures turned out great and they did relax, with Charlotte even coming up with some great ideas for images. She loves the fact that Chris is so tall in comparison to her, so we worked with that.

This is why I know doing a Wedding Package including a complimentary Pre-Wedding Shoot is really important. It gives us all a chance to relax, throw ideas around and get rid off those nerves when in front of the camera, before the Wedding Day!

And, their Wedding Day is this Saturday!

It's going to be an amazing, intimate event at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel, York. Inside the hotel, it truly is a 5* venue, luxurious and opulent,  I can see why Chris and Charlotte chose it. 40 guests will witness their ceremony and enjoy a sumptuous Wedding Breakfast in the most amazing architecture and styling that I can't wait to photograph for them.

Chocolate delights on your complimentary Engagement Shoot! https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/5/chocolate-delights

If there's three things I love in this life, it's photography, York and chocolate!

Now, I don't suppose you love photography as much as I do, but everyone likes chocolate, right?

And York is just the most beautiful place to live and the home of chocolate!

I left once, but don't worry, I am back to stay.

So, I've now combined my three loves, to bring you something a little more special as part of your complimentary Pre-Wedding Shoot

We start off down by the river, where you guys can stroll hand in hand and tell me a little more about how you met.

It's really fun, sort of like a 'mini date' only with a photographer in tow, lol.

After the riverside, we'll walk up through the Museum Gardens.  The best gardens in town to take a picnic or your lunch!

But, it does get very busy so, to avoid the crowds, we'll do your shoot either first thing in the morning or last thing in the afternoon.

At the end of our walk we'll head to the York Cocoa House where a drink and a slice of cake are waiting for you. You can choose something naughty and nice! All of their dishes contain chocolate, some in more conventional ways, while others are a bit more adventurous.

How about one of their amazing hot chocolates or a fresh brewed coffee? And to go with it a piece of chocolate truffle torte or maybe a slice of their freshly made chocolate cake?

Go on, you know you want to.............

While you enjoy your refreshments, you will also get to make a Chocolate Lollipop each and receive a small box of chocolates to take home.

Once we've taken the last photographs, I'll leave you in peace to savour the delights in the York Cocoa House.

A few days later, your images will be ready for you in your own private gallery where you can choose which one you'd like to use for your Wedding Day. Extra images or even maybe a Portrait Album could be purchased if you wanted?

So, that's it.

When you book my full price Wedding Package you will receive a complimentary shoot that includes;

an hours photography in York

a drink and cake in York Cocoa House

a lollipop and a box of chocs to take home

and

a framed image in a Signing Board for your guests to sign on your Wedding Day

*Small print

Shoot has to be scheduled for either 9am or 4pm and can be done on any day. If you choose to take your complimentary Pre-Wedding shoot at an alternate venue, you will receive a voucher to redeem at the Cocoa House at your leisure.

And, what if your not getting married? Well, you can still enjoy some of the above by just booking the Chocolate Delights Package!

Under the Spotlight https://www.joannebphotography.co.uk/blog/2014/5/under-the-spotlight

When I was about 8, off I went to ballet school. A right of passage for any little girl. However, it was pretty obvious early on that I was neither built for it or interested in it. So, here I am some 30 (and the rest) years later, dropping Grace off once a week to don her ballet shoes. So far she seems to enjoy it and I think that is impart down to the amazing young lady who the school belongs to.

I have worked with Sarah and her family, offering my services for free to help with this great local dance school. And I wanted to know more about her and her ambitions.

Dancing goes back many years in Sarah's family, started initially with her Great Aunty Rose who would go to classes and then come home to teach Sarah's Granddad everything she'd learnt! Sarah's Granny and Granddad were married in 1957 and performed in Oaklahoma. Sarah's Granddad told them he could dance and the choreographer, Miss Isobel Dunn, taught him the dream ballet.

From there many member's of Sarah's family joined Isobel Dunn to learn ballet.  Sarah attended her first class at Isobel Dunn School of Dancing when she was just 3 and was the only ever 3rd generation to attend the school.  Sarah's younger sister, Heather also began at 3!

At 6 Sarah did her first performance on stage in Miss Dunn's annual show Dance Flash.

In 2000 Dance Flash moved to the Grand Opera House and stayed there for the next 9 years.  Sarah's younger sister Isobelle started dancing at 6 and finally all the sisters persueded William, the brother to the three dancing sister's, to start tap and musical theatre at 9! 2008 and 2009 saw all four Steads taking part in Dance Flash with their mum helping out as a dresser and their dad as the photographer.

Miss Dunn's influenced Sarah in so many ways, she taught her that dance was not only an art form but also a strict discipline and you always did your best! At the age of 13 Sarah began assisting with the younger classes as well as auditioning for parts in the Grand Opera House Pantomime, which she got!

Initially after school Sarah thought she would like to study Fashion and Clothing with a view to studying Costume Design at University, but it wasn't for her.  So, in 2009, with plenty of encouragement from her mum, Sarah set up dance 2 classes for children aged 3-8 years.

It was small to begin with, but it
