I love a good winter wedding and Gary & Lucy's day in November did not disappoint.
The wedding took place at The Grand Hotel & Spa and was a real winter delight. The interior of the hotel lends itself beautifully to the ambience of a winters day with its warm colours and plush furnishings. The atmosphere Lucy really wanted to create was a warm and cosy one with plenty of candles and Christmas lights and she certainly got it.
When in the Grand Hotel there is only one place to photograph a stunning dress and that would be on the stunning staircase. I have to say, that for the reason of safety, Lucy's mum was holding onto the dress tightly while it hung over the beautiful banister!
While the bride to be got ready with her girls around her, so did the boys. Gary and his groomsmen met to do their ties and check that they were all present and correct.
Meanwhile, downstairs the ceremony room was set. It looked warm and inviting, nothing short of magical. Ambience venue styling did an amazing job as ever!
The ladies were ready in plenty of time. The bridesmaids were dressed in gorgeous red gowns whilst Lucy looked stunning in her dress from Forever Yours.
Lucy was escorted to the ceremony by her lovely step-father who was proud and happy to do the honours.
The ceremony went beautifully and the owl behaved impeccably delivering the rings to the bestmen at the front just how he was supposed to.
After the ceremony it was time to capture the family and friends of the newlyweds. The group photographs when taken in the gorgeous splendour of The Grand always look good.
As do the Bride and Groom portraits, particularly when the Grand was looking so Christmassy!
The Grand boardroom looked stunning once set for the wedding breakfast. The cake by Where the Ribbon Ends was painstakingly adorned with flowers from Rosebuds Florists.
The speeches went down really well. As you can see there was plenty of joy and laughter throughout.
After dinner the new Mr & Mrs Brooks took to the floor for their first dance.
Before being joined by all their friends and family for a proper party!
Dual Project did a fabulous 80's set keeping everyone up and dancing. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane and even had a little dance myself to one of my favourites, Tainted Love!
One of the joys of a winter wedding is stepping outside and capturing the evening lights. Lucy had thought ahead and came prepared for the night by purchasing the most divine fur cape in a bold red.
A November wedding wouldn't be complete without a sparkler or two!
We even had time to take a very short stroll across to the bar walls to capture this lovely image of the happy couple with York Minster in the background.
It really was a fabulous winter wedding! I had the most amazing time capturing it all for Lucy and Gary. Their friends and family were a joy to be with and made my job on the day so much fun.
Like most winter weddings it was a technical challenge to achieve all the shots that Lucy and Gary wanted, but I think you will agree that these pictures capture the true essence of what a wedding in November should include!
If you are thinking about having a winter wedding or have already booked your winters date, then please get in touch.
I really do love the challenge that weddings around Christmas time present and I love the images that are the result!
